“…The conference distributed $88.36 million of revenue to 12 members, with Cincinnati leading the way with $9.44 million, followed by Houston ($8.52 million), Tulsa ($7.98 million), Memphis ($7.97 million), UCF ($7.96 million), Tulane ($7.88 million), SMU ($7.65 million), Temple ($7.63 million), East Carolina ($7.58 million), USF ($7.56 million) and Navy ($5.33 million)…”
The conference distributed $88.36 million of revenue to 12 members, with Cincinnati leading the way with $9.44 million, followed by Houston ($8.52 million), Tulsa ($7.98 million), Memphis ($7.97 million), UCF ($7.96 million), Tulane ($7.88 million), SMU ($7.65 million), Temple ($7.63 million), East Carolina ($7.58 million), USF ($7.56 million) and Navy ($5.33 million).
The distribution was for fiscal year 2020-21, the Covid year. Tulsa’s record was 6-1 in the AAC. The loss was to UC. The only scheduled OOC game was a loss to Oklahoma State. It then lost to Miss. State in the Armed Forces Bowl.
UCF’s AAC record was 5-3. UCF beat Georgia Tech in its only scheduled OOC game. It then lost to BYU in the Boca Raton Bowl.
UCF played one more conference game than Tulsa. Tulsa had a better conference record.
It’s the same rationale that cost UH a regular season basket ball championship. It’s the regular season record regardless of the number of games played. Tulsa and WSU won because of better conference records while playing fewer games. According to the AAC, you can win playing fewer games. This affects records. It also affects money distributed by the AAC. The problem with this rule is a team could play only one conference game and be the champion while another team loses 1 out of 10.
The significant question is: should Tulsa ever receive more money from the AAC than UCF? Which schools built the AAC? The AAC members are not receiving
$7million per year for what Tulsa contributes.
$8.52 million for us is $5 million more than the most we’ve ever received from our conference. Even with that, we are over a half a billion dollars behind Tech and Baylor EACH from what they’ve received since 1996
