By the simple measure of total recruit ratings points, then teams like Colorado & Texas State likely had the best recruiting classes in the nation last year with all of their transfers. Do some folks really not understand that total points is not nearly as important as the average recruit rating?
Teams like UT and ATM have an average recruit rating of 92+ in line with the likes of Alabama and Georgia & Ohio State, and their average recruit ratings is why they are playoff contenders.
Conversely, it appears UH’s average recruit rating is still behind most of the other regional P4 schools including the likes of Texas Tech, TCU and SMU, but I think we may have caught back up with Baylor. Hopefully we can continue to improve our recruiting sooner rather than later.
I am truly excited about tomorrow and the 2024 season . We have increased our Player Power and our Coaching Power in a matter of two weeks! Geaux Coogs !
SMU lacks the recent tradition (this is their first conference title since I was a kid, and I turn 52 in about a week), facilities (not close to ours), and competitive prowess (no P5 wins this year, got thumped by 5-7 TCU) to suddenly become a college football recruiting juggernaut.
All the rich fat cats and NIL in the world won’t make up for that.
If Fritz had had all year to work at this, then it probably wouldn’t be close.
I am amped for next season with the new staff. Disciplined play, lots of new players. I believe we win 4+ next year with no blow-out losses. Then we climb!
That’s too high. They probably will be OK next year, but like any G5 moving up to P5 (see the Big 12 this season), they will NOT come out and dominate.
Hell, they couldn’t beat P5s this season, so I see no reason to think that they’ll dominate at that level next year.
But long term, even if they surprise next year….they are NOT likely to sustain a high level of success.
I ain’t SKEEEERED of SMU ever surpassing us long term.
My former student. He was all conference in the Lone Star Conference. He really wanted to go to UH a few years ago, but we didn’t offer. If he has a committable offer, very good chance he ends up at UH.
