Lot in there…I just skipped around it and would mention the new capital campaign is now underway. 580 million already raised in the quiet phase. Sounds like it’s at least a Billion dollar+ goal to be reached by the centennial celebration.

Why are we building a population health building in the medical center where there should be a hospital eventually…
Also in what time frame did we raise the 580
That Medical Research building is a key to becoming AAU.
The AAU appears to favor biomedical research more than any other criteria. See USF for more details!
Hopefully this building will help us attract some research oriented med school faculty, and help us bring in some NIH grants!
I’m surprised I haven’t heard any more about it until now, given that, according to the speech, it’s a $78 million facility that is expected to be paid for chiefly with state legislative funds.
If that’s true…then GOD BLESS OUR STATE’S POLITICIANS!!!

UH already owns the building in the medical center but is getting ready to remodel it for the population health program.

WOW!!!
I just LOVE our current Texas politicians!!!
Here’s the thing though.
Reading through that legislative mumbo-jumbo, it seems like that only permits the issuance of bonds for those purposes, as opposed to direct funding.
Am I reading that correctly?

Well, your guess is as good or better than mine but that is where they got most of the funds to build those facilities.
Yes but why this building and not a hospital
You will have to ask the administration about that, but there are rumors that UH is trying to buy St. Joseph medical complex as a teaching hospital.
Remember, as of now, it’s just a rumor that we hope is true.
Opening a hospital is a massive undertaking with a ton of regulatory hurdles and huge financial risk.

Understood but thats what i was hoping they would do for that space eventually.
That building doesnt make sense to me if its to teach about population health. Couldve easily added that at fertitta college of medicine. Just seems like a waste.
At Case Western Reserve University, a USNEWS Tier 1 medical school, there is BOTH a biomedical research building, AND there are teaching hospitals.
It’s not an either/or.
It needs to be a BOTH.

Biomedical is not population health…
Pop Health is probably what Dr Khator thinks will get approval and funding.

That’s the pharmacy college. Are they building a new pharmacy building somewhere else? Its an interesting building architecturally speaking, glad they are renovating it.
Iowa is the same.
