Yeah I accept that definition, chokes are in moments and short series. You can’t “choke” a whole game that’s the other team being better than you that game.
On Florida I’ll always contend that the real key was the Florida coach brilliantly played the refs in the second half by telling his guys to go foul crazy and force the refs to wildly over correct.
Wow a 1 point loss in OT to a top 10 team. What a choke! /s
It was a weird game where they couldn’t miss from 3pt early and where the refs were calling pretty much any contact a foul. In case you forgot we avenged that loss by going into their building a beating them by 8.
So, that guarantees that we would win by 9.5? They lost their coach and player, which fired up their team. Meanwhile, I believe the team had a lot of distractions that night with a jersey retirement, new blue jersey intro and a packed and rowdy building that was buzzing more than it had during that season. The refs seemed &zoom facor them most of the game too, probably to make up for their ejections. And hey still only won by one in overtime.
Tech shot lights out that game making high level contested shots all game and got the benefit of the officials for the last 38 min of the game. Even with that we still had a chance to take the game if not for an untimely miss at the FT line handed TT the game.
Not a choke and not even a notable upset as far as the tourney is concerned. Also for what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure Sasser and Shead were let 100% towards the end of that season.
It was an upset not a choke. And tbh not really that big of an upset. After all they were the ACC regular season champs. Not like they were some Cinderella.
