I wouldn’t even use Duke. I’d use Kansas. Lol
There are 3 significant elements to choking.
- Being up big in the game that a comeback for the opposing team is statistically unlikely.
- A complete and utter collapse that happens somewhat suddenly where the team up can no longer execute and has a series of missteps.
- The game has to be of actual importance (win or go home).
28-3 was a choke. Duke losing to us was a choke. Kansas losing to us was a choke.
Us losing to San Diego State and Tech aren’t choking. If you have to be critical you could say we threw those games but throwing is not the same as choking.
Also a great choice
That was a BROKE as in we BROKE Kansas after that come back!
In one interview Coach Sampson gave, he took umbrage over describing a lower seated team beating higher seated team in the NCAA Tournament as an “upset”. Sampson’s point was that it is all about match-ups, regardless of the two teams’ rankings.
Losing to Florida was not choking. We went up by close to 12 points but then we had Tugler in the bench that allowed Florida to come back. It happens in ever game between any teams. We lost two possessions in the end of the game that we shoukd have converted but that also happens in most games between two evenly matched teams.
Florida is 6th in defensive efficiency.
Should we have gotten at least shot attempts, yes.
But it was a 1-2 possession game down the stretch.
If it was our 4 turnovers with a 8-10 pt lead. Thats a choke in my view.
If we wouldve lost to Gonzaga 2nd round. With a strong lead throughout thats a choke.
The Florida game was very tight much of the 2nd half.
This. Choking involves having a substantial lead or being in total control of the game. You can say we fumbled or threw at the end of the Florida game but that’s not choking.
Nah… we choked… how many other times last season did we turn the ball over 4 out of 5 possessions… I bet the answer is 0.
Not only not executing but commiting consecutive turnovers at the final moments of a game after you’ve been one of the best teams with respect to protecting the ball all SEASON is a choke job.
If the pressure causes you to play uncharacteristically… that’s a choke job.
My bad… I was wrong… we turned it over 4 times in a row to end the game…
Choking is any game where you give up a run of 5 or more to the other team
Well either way, outside of the Florida or one of the Bama/Auburn losses last season, our losses was when we were the favored team.
That tends to happen when you’re one of the best teams in the country. That’s not saying anything of value.
I hope FSU is improved over the team that played here at Toyota Center. Not a very appealing draw IMO…
on paper worse.
Last year they were a bad team with two star players, both star players transferred out, aren’t any notable players on the current team.
The Home 2022-23 matchup, where Jarace went off late, the Shead game winning step back. Was a great game
The 2023-24 road matchup, where we have a big lead early, Cincinnati roars back. Its looking like an L. And we pull out a W. Great game.
The problem is Cincinnati is always unranked. So there’s no national buzz for the game
We’re always expected to beat them since Cronin left.
I think the main factor would be losing as the favored team.
I think it’s more about losing a game you had in hand. So the timing of the loss is as important as anything else.
