We did play Oakland in the 1st rd the year the current Tulane coach was there.
Tbf, with the level weâre at right now, those kind of games are kind of unavoidable. We could honestly beat 80-90% of non power programs by that kind of margin if we actually tried.
the november portion of noncon looks good if we play auburn in week 1 again but maybe we can see if gonzaga wants to play us again in mid-december lol
Russell, which year are you referring to.
I donât recall playing Oakland in a Regional. But also the current Oakland HC has been there forever⊠like 30+ yrs i know for sure.
I think he was thinking of Georgia St when Ron Hunter was there. To my knowledge weâve only played Oakland once (Dickey era) and we lost. Would be good to even that one out lol
You are correct I had it wrong in my head and was thinking of Georgia State.
So last time we faced Oakland may have been the early season game I think in Hofheinz.
I know we are going to play a handful in non-conâŠ.that is fine.
My last post was in regard to playing a Houston-only tournament with Rice/TSU/Houston ChristianâŠâŠitâs a horrible idea.
For the City!
You crazy Norb!
Just checked and we have played Oakland once and lost to them by 2 in 2011.
Gotcha and yah I agree with you. Now an event similar to the Houston Baseball Classic would be cool. You could have it as a quasi SEC/B12 event and have 2 or 3 B12 schools take on 2 or 3 SEC schools. Play it at TC and let Tillman rake in some extra cash.
So weâre playing Oakland and paying them $90k, why not schedule our city brothers and pay them instead. The tide lift all boats. It be great if Houston became a college basketball city hotbed. For the City!
Payback time!
Cause we donât want to see Rice, TSU etc over and over again itâs a waste of games
Did we ever repay TSU for using their facilities for the 2017-18 season?
I donât think we gave them a football game.
Iâm sure the athletic department paid them to use their facilities.
I checked the past schedule and we did play TSU in 2018 at home.
We played them in football as part of that deal.
Know your comment is TSU⊠but in theme of playing local teams.
IIRC Rice attempted to price gouge us when we built TDECU and so we ended up playing in the soccer stadium.
We do not owe them any favors.
