Five artists to perform at Cougar Alley ahead of Top 20 matchup
HOUSTON – Houston Football’s tailgating festivities received a jolt of energy on Saturday as the Cougars are set to host a free two-hour concert at Cougar Alley prior to No. 20 Houston’s Top 20 matchup with No. 18 Oklahoma State.
The FREE two-hour concert presented by L.O.U.D. Muzik will feature five talented artists including DJ GT Mayne, MC D-Swift, Paul Luna, Melanie Rose and Aloye performing between 3:45-5:45 p.m.
The pregame party at Cougar Alley marks the first pregame music event at TDECU Stadium since James Kennedy performed in 2023 ahead of a Houston Football game.
Fans can enjoy the concert at Cougar Alley along with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Thirsty’s Coca-Cola pop-up in addition to the Bud Light Backyard, Kids’ Zone, student tailgate (FREE for UH students) and the Team Store.
I don’t know who these artists are, but I like how the University is doing everything possible to make this a marquee and memorable event for all to attend. Go Coogs
Credit to Alvin Franklin and Alexis Williams who have poured countless hours into building up these various elements. We were excited to present a very similar game day experience for UCF but, as we all know, the kickoff time ended up early which didn’t permit for some of these pieces.
Our hope is our Coogs arrive early, enjoy all of the pregame elements, make it through the gates well before kick, snag some concessions, and are ready to welcome the Coogs to the field!
I hate to say it, but it has to be more than just about football for the average fans. For season ticket holders football is enough. I appreciate the effort you are putting in. Unfortunately, you have to make football a destination with other things to do in addition to the game.
Not even just UT. Tech does a pregame concert for every game. I think Baylor does a drone show for every night game. A lot of this is just UH catching up on standards for modern gameday presentation. We still don’t have the higher-end stuff like laser lights and LED stadium lights that change colors or can be quickly raised/lowered.
This is what we’re competing with.
This is the 4th quarter for a team that’s sucked for a decade playing an FCS team.
We poor remember what Sampson said, who pays for all this entertainment and stuff, i love we are stepping up our game but it all costs money, we need more season ticket holders, more fans and more donors
Agreed. And that was my point, everyone is doing this now to make the game a true event. Even teams that have no problems drawing fans like UT.
I get that doing the touchdown light thing will require a complete redo of our lights but that’s something that we’ve got to do this offseason. It adds a whole new vibe to the game day experience. And let’s face it, that’s all anyone under 40 cares about nowadays - the vibe. Especially in a city like Houston where there are a million other things to do.
This is exactly correct! I’ve been screaming this from the mountaintops. Most people who attend college football games are not football fans. These are folks attending for other reasons: tailgating, hanging with friends, kids in the band, or, most notably, the pageantry. So you have to do stuff like this to get the casuals in the door and, most importantly, to get them to come back and bring friends.
How about some lasers at the top of the stadium to create a field effect something like the court effect at Fertitta, with the drones, the car and some fireworks you would have a show for a night game. If the lighting can be changed that is awesome as well.
I like the idea of a few UH College Game Days, where we set up a stage, have an MC with guest alumni and coaches, past and present, even opposing teams to represent their take on the game. Televise live on channel 8 and have give aways, maybe a field goal for students, but give away $1,000 scholarships and prizes. It could work. Promote the heck out of it, but it would need to be a night or afternoon game against a big opponent.
Yes, kind of like that but bigger. You are right, we should set up pregame announcers outside the stadium on a regular basis, but then again, the 11:00 start does not lend itself to much pregame activity, things need to wrap up an hour before kick.
