Someone on FB posted one from Detroit as well
TrueâŠ
With the rising costs of living in Southern California these days, maybe an education at UH will be cheaper than UCLA, UC Irvine, USC, CSU Long Beach, Loyola Marymount etc.
Lots of Californians at SMU, TCU and Baylor. 20+% at SMU.
Youâre right. I fired back without double checking.
I think we should launch an all-out billboard assault in LA, starting with Astros billboards to piss off the crying Dodger fans.
New UH advertisement in LA
From what I have read, UHâs out-of-state tuition is just a hair below the national average. I like the idea of recruiting in other states. Not just for athletes either. UH has excellent programs in business, engineering, hospitality, law and a new medical school.
I remember seeing something in the BoR or a Fall Address that UH is establishing regional presence in out of state metros. Detroit, Denver, Los Angeles, Kansas City were a few.
I canât find the graphic for the life of me
This is GREAT news but donât stop at those cities.
Also, we have an Undergrad Program that has a strangle hold as being the BEST in the CountryâŠbetter than schools like Harvard, Yale, ColumbiaâŠ
And itâs a very important programâŠENTREPRENEURSHIP
why arenât we posting billboards in every major non-Texas US metro?
Apparently, after a great record of success, UH quit recruiting out-of-state National Merit Scholars for a while. Does anyone know anything about this and whether it has changed, too?
Right now, we can not change the narrative INSIDE the State of Texas that we are nothing more than an Inferior Regional City Commuter School of second and third tier students.
Even our proud SUCCESSFUL Alums âencourageâ their children to go elsewhere because honestly, it looks better from a social status standpoint.
Our only hope is to change that narrative from the OUTSIDE- IN
Go after the best from metros in other states and sell them on UH/ Houston/ Texas. THATâS how we will earn respect and obtain AAU status AND develop into a College Atmosphere
Sorry but it is time to amend our Mission Statement just as Texas A&M, Florida State, Sam Houston and ALL of the Southern Segregated Schools have
We still offer a very competitive NM scholar award but itâs not as competitive as UTD or Alabama. Maybe not as competitive as A&Mâs Presidential Endowed Scholarship. [UT caps many in state NM scholars that want engineering or business.] UH moved the extra funding to Tier One scholarships which is a solid idea because it looks at leadership, grades and test scores and not just PSAT scores like NM.
Who cares what other Texas school think of us. Youâre not one of those jealous neighbors types are you?
@UH1927 isnt lying to be honest.
We are still fighting old stigmas about UH unfortunately in the social setting but it is changing.
I just had a conversation with UH alum coworker and she stated her daughter is currently looking at going to Clemson or the University of Georgia.
Iâm not jealousâŠIâm stating the overwhelming FACTâŠattending the University of Houston, as it CURRENTLY stands, is viewed as a less desirable less socially acceptable (from a success standpoint) than a bunch of schools and almost ALL of our P5 contemporaries.
Can her daughter even point to Clemson or Georgia on a map lol?
Who freakin cares what other people think. Go to the school you want and youâll fit in. In todayâs age you have so much access to learning you can become successful anywhere
I could care less if people think my UH degree is successful or not
Those schools are tougher to get into than A&M but itâs close. I guess Tech grads might prefer Tech for their kids over Clemson and Georgia but if you have the out of state money for those schools (I.e., $60k all in and they donât give much aid) youâve got better options than typical Tech grad. My guess is they donât go to those two schools unless theyâre rather well off. Clemson and UGA are a better class of option than OU and Arkansas.
The less informed alums send kids to lower ranked schools over UH. Like Tech, SFA, TX State, Sam and especially the OOS schools. I get that Arkansas, Bama, LSU and OU are fun but the outcomes are potentially worse than UH especially with internships in Houston area.
