UH new hires: Kendal Briles and Randy Clements

Those guys definitely benefitted from Case throwing the ball 50-60 times a game. I don’t see that ever happening again. What was really cool about those teams though is that we had RBs with tons of rushing yards. That passing game did wonders for opening up the running game.

I also miss the days of having RBs who were basically WRs. They lined up in the slot just as often as they lined up in the backfield. Teams didn’t have enough DBs to even have a prayer of covering anyone.

Smh. I don’t understand why he can’t get his head around and become an All-American corner. He has the length and speed, but when the ball is in the air you have to hold your breath. lol I hope CKB matches up Morgan (or Lark) and IJ in the Spring, 1 on 1 a bunch. If he can press (If CMD allows it), turn and run with the receiver, he’ll be a shut down corner.

Yep. He has the length and speed of William Jackson III. Just needs someone to hone his skills.

Facts

This lawsuit further states that the coaching staff employed a recruiting approach that involved taking recruits to strip clubs, making Baylor hostesses available for sex, and making alcohol and drugs available. So putting Briles in a city like Houston, known for its overabundance of strip clubs makes perfect sense if the goal is to recruit the kind of high-skill, low-character reprobates that filled out Art Briles’ Baylor squads.

Though the decision to hire Kendal Briles is marred in controversy, from a football standpoint, it is a top-notch move. The Houston Cougars are gaining a top offensive mind in the country for a contract similar to Brian Johnson’s. This hire can be a grand slam, 99-yard touchdown pass, or it could be like the Houston Cougars offense last season, an attempt to run it up the gut and go nowhere. We’ll see what happens in the upcoming season.

The first one is hard to read due to being a fellow Coog and i basically gave you the tone of the piece. Second is analytical. Just wanted to post different views.

Was Lincoln Riley seriously interested in UH or was he holding out to see if he could land the OU job?

He had no interest in UH and was holding out for the OU job.

rumor is he would have taken the job, if not for the 10 million buyout

“rumor is he would have taken the job, if not for the 10 million buyout”

think not:
he declined the interview

Remember, we are talking about Waco where the best restaurant in town is Olive Garden. Baylor had nothing other than sex and drugs to offer recruits.

it is confirmed he interviewed…it is reported we loved him after the interview…it is also confirmed something in the negotiation made him completely say no… the rumor was that the buyout amount was way too much for him to even consider

If true then he would have left us for OU before he ever coached a game.

They don’t even have “fixer upper” anymore.

That’s correct. If we had foolishly agreed to hire Lincoln Riley without a huge buyout clause, he would have left UH to return to OU before he ever even coached a single game at UH. That would have been an absolute disaster. Thank goodness our leadership was smart enough to avoid that circumstance.

I have to agree. I wanted Lincoln Riley bad, but I have to think he and Stoops had a talk. Stoops leaving was at the perfect time for Riley to continue. No way he had no idea. I truly believe that is why he turned down everyone. He could have had several jobs last year.

That John Royal article was asinine. I get people being upset because KB was there when everything happened and some of the stench still exists on him, if for no other reason than because his last name is Briles. Heck, even I agree it’s hard to believe all that went on and he didn’t know anything about it. But that’s just conjecture and we are still at a point where the only thing that’s even attributable to him personally are the recruiting violations and a hearsay statement about white girls liking football players. And let’s be honest. If the word “white” hadn’t been thrown in there, no one would have given that statement a second thought. All the other stuff Royal threw into that garbage piece is attributed to the program and not KB personally.

If Royal had conditioned everything he said with “allegedly” and still had a problem with the hire, I would have been ok with this piece. I might have even agreed with it, although I still like to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when the allegations are this serious. But to suggest no due diligence was done because UH may or may not have more information about KB than the entire rest of the country, or that UH knows every single detail and chose to ignore it because KB took them to Treasures is ludicrous and the Houston Press should be ashamed for allowing this drivel to be published.

Finally, where in the world did he get the impression that UH was surprised by the backlash? For crying out loud, I saw defensive statements from the school before I saw the news that KB had been hired!

The fact is, UH knew this would be a controversial hire but was ultimately comfortable enough with the current known facts to make the hire. Only time will tell if it was a bad decision, but John Royal is a laughable excuse for a “journalist” or “columnist” or whatever you want to call him. He made no attempt to get this right…the very thing he accuses UH of doing. He chose clicks over honest writing. What a clown!

What’s the story with McLemore? I saw him in a couple of games and he seemed to have the old UH size and speed at the WR spot. I don’t recall seeing his name much in the discussions on this board.

He’s out of eligibility.

Okay. Thought I saw him listed on the new roster with some of the new recruits. I was confused. I thought he showed flashes last season in very limited time so I was hoping he had another year.
