UH next retired jersey?

Birdsong’s number is retired…

Yep you are correct. I knew that dang it dang it.
I meant Don Chaney, the best defensive guard to ever play here with my man Shead not far behind.

Don Chaney’s jersey was retired last season… you were probably there…

All right I’m done lol. I remember that now but old age got me.
Let me try one more time…or maybe I should just ask Ken Spain’s number has been retired?
Bottom line, retire Shead’s number immediately! The great leader our backcourt has ever had!

Going to be difficult to meet this qualification with NIL ongoing

I’ve been saying the same thing for 25 or more years, but here it goes again …

We cannot possibly retire all the jerseys that many would like us to.

What we need is a ring of honor sort of thing. There are 20 or 30 players, at least, I believe whose names and numbers should be hanging from the rafters. I’d prefer we did this sooner rather than later as some of those guys are already gone or are getting older.

Same should happen for football–something around one of the concrete rims in the stadium.

It’s stunning to me something like that hasn’t happened already.

As I recall, and the few surviving video clips and statements from the participants in the events of the '72 Gold Medal game prove, the Soviets sent a deep bench thug into the game with the express purpose of starting a fight with Dwight Jones. Dwight had been the star of the USA squad to that point. Dwight’s ejection was an egregious officiating intervention in favor of the comrades — though, as events would transpire, less absurd than the end of the game.

We have 6 retired numbers out of 100 available… Nobody that played since PSJ…

Jamal $head deserves to have his number retired.

Internet search says Dwight Davis is in the Hall of Honor so we must have something similar to what you’re talking about… but would be nice to see the jerseys hanging from the rafters.

There aren’t 100 numbers people are interested in wearing more like 40.

Shead is the only guy that doesn’t have his jersey retired who deserves to have his jersey retired. That’s all. The Dwights were pretty good but not quite there.

Can we wait at least 5 years before putting Shead in lol?

thanks

Let’s just not become the Astros when it comes to retiring numbers. They’ve got a few that aren’t deserving. Now they’ve more deserving players that will never have their number retired.

He earned it based on his college career… why wait?

How many other male athletes have been named conference Athlete of the Year…?

I don’t know, but I’d guess it’s talking about the UH Athletics Hall of Fame.

Maybe, as an alternative to creating a separate hall of honor, hang jerseys of all basketball players in the UH Hall of Fame. Anything is better than the current situation.

We need rafter jerseys!!!

We have 6 numbers retired… $head his senior year was the Big12 Male Athlete of the Year… he earned a jersey retirement on his college career let alone what he may do in the pros.

I 100% agree that Shead should have his number retired. Just pointing out that let’s not go the way of the Astros and start retiring numbers of players that lack the accolades.

I’m all for “Hanging Jerseys,” but I’m not a huge fan of retiring numbers.
