Uh Oh. The Blind Side may be a load of crap

Did Orr blow all his $ already or did he find out he is not in the will?

So very white of you to ask.

Why is it (racist?) to ask if someone blew their money?

I didn’t know about this story btw.

I just saw it on social media today.

I never trusted Sandra Bullock.

It isn’t, however when someone’s first inclination to to think Oher is just looking for a payday and not that maybe his claims have merit certainly comes from a racial bias. The bias may not be conscious or intentional but it is there.

You mean a Hollywood movie played loose with the facts?

Really sad if he really made no money off that film and the family got rich.

Indeed.

And just think.

That was such a “feel good” movie.

Wow.

They told him they adopted him but it was a conservatorship not an adoption. They told him it was the same thing, it wasnt. This allowed the family to make money off of him. When they sold the.movie rights they made a flat fee and a percentage of earnings. They hid it from Mike. He just learned about it this past February. So he says, there may be.more to it all.

Disgusting.

Yes, if these allegations are true it is quite disgusting that they would take advantage like that. I’m sure they tell themselves that they deserved it.

Why didn’t he speak out when the movie came out?

Most NFL players blow through thier $ after thier playing days.

Sports Illustrated found that after two years of retirement, 78 percent of NFL players are bankrupt or under financial stress .

Read what @BayouCougar said. It sounds like he let things slide until he realized how rich they got off the movie.

I was not disputing that pro players often go broke in retirement. Your first instinct when you saw the original post was to ask did he go broke or did he get left out of the will? Those questions show you assumed (possibly unconsiously) he was suing just because he wanted money and not because he was actually harmed.

Honestly, I don’t think I would have given the bankruptcy question a second thought had you not included the “left out of the will” part, that’s what made the whole line of questioning sound like you suspected Oher of just looking for a payday.

Also, that article is from 2015, I wonder how much has changed since then.

There is a great 30 for 30 about this called “Broke”.

It’s probably bc they get all that money and have no experience on how to manage it mainly bc they have a lot of people asking for money and people hanging on asking. It’s like winning the lottery. Their friends know they got the big contract then ask and take. It’s why if you win the lottery, you want to hide the fact you won by talking to lawyers. Nfl players sign and everyone knows , “hey joe, you just signed for 15 mil “then friends etc hang on and many give in too much and spread the wealth. Rock bands have that problem too bc all their friends know how much money. So it’s not that they are that stupid but they suddenly have enormous pressure on them to help their friends.
