Uh Oh. The Blind Side may be a load of crap

Yes, I hope it does because that would be a path to move forward on the main legal and financial issues in the suit.

And that is exactly what he is asking for.

Actually, I just reread one of the articles and their lawyer said they won’t oppose ending the conservatorship. The article made no mention of providing the accounting though.

As Coogcheese related in the story he posted, it could be more about hurt feelings than dollars and cents.

Oher could feel he’s due compensation for the alleged deception about the conservatorship, even if they didn’t do anything improper financially.

Now of course, if they did do something improper financially, they could have felt they earned it for the support they gave him.

It isn’t cut and dry and I think there are significant questions that need to be answered by them to Oher.

They don’t need to be answered in public but unfortunately for all involved it is public now.

I realize my posts weren’t as neutral as I really feel here as we don’t know all the facts and likely never will. What I really was harping on was that some people immediately thought Oher’s allegations must be bogus and all about getting a payday. Whether it was conscious or unconscious biases (be they racial, or otherwise), I am not sure either.

I mean yeah he is a millionaire still

Now he could be into debt up to his eyeballs that isn’t public, but based on public knowledge he’s plenty well off. And yeah kids are expensive and he’s got 4 of them.

No one said he was genius just that he’s not mentally handicapped thus should have no need for conservatorship at all when he was 18 or now. And he didn’t need it to go to Ole Miss that could’ve legally adopted him at 18. Everything else is up to these folks to make the case in court. Maybe it’s a money grab, or maybe Oher can prove he was defrauded or heck maybe everyone’s telling the truth and it was in fact their sketchy lawyer who screwed everyone.

Turns out the couple Michael probably at one time called “dad” and “mom” aren’t actually his mom and dad because they LIED to him and didn’t adopt him like he thought. Instead they just took his rights to his own story.

Thats the story many of the arse clowns on this thread are missing.

It’s completely effed up.

I would too. They lied to an 18 year old kid, broke his heart
for money and fame.

Not for money. They were already very rich.

Rich people try to get richer all the time.

Probably not money true, but some rich people are weird like that. Greed can be weird like that. But probably fame for the most part would be my guess in the most motivating factors.

‘The notion that a couple worth hundreds of millions of dollars would connive to withhold a few thousand dollars in profit participation payments from anyone – let alone from someone they loved as a son – defies belief,’ Singer said.

Singer did acknowledge that the Tuohys ‘received a small advance from the production company and a tiny percentage of net profits’ from the film, which they either shared with Oher or tried to share with him, according to the attorney.

‘Over the years, the Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from The Blind Side,’ Singer said.

The movie made $300M, do you guys think that the Tuohys received all that money or something?

No.

Ah so ur a mind reader.

It will all come out in court which when it comes to family(ish) disputes especially over money it should basically always go to court or arbitration. Keep things nice and official and you avoid long term he said she said stuff.

I think it was about the money but not in the way you’re thinking. If they legally adopted him and got the movie money I don’t think he would have been able to accept a football scholarship without violating NCAA rules. So then it would have been up to them to pay for their new "sons’ college or he’d have had to take out a lot of loans.

By not adopting him they could sign the movie deal and not have to pay for Michael’s college.

They just went cheap and didn’t think what the love cost would be.

Theory based on limited info, of course.

What we do know though is they are lying about not actually being able to adopt him. So, why that lie?

They likely received about 2- 6 million as payment on the backend after it finished its theatrical run and earned 300 million plus.

I think that there is a dispute of fact as to whether they “lied” about that. I believe that their position is that they were simply MISTAKEN in that regard, based on bad advice that they claim to have received from their lawyers.

I guess we’ll find out whether that’s true or not during discovery.

Perhaps their lawyers in the conservatorship will be deposed and state under oath that they gave them advice to the effect that Oher was too old to adopt, and to go the conservatorship route instead on that basis. Granted, they’d look pretty incompetent
borderline malpractice level incompetent if they did
but that might be enough to save the Tuohys on that issue.
