UH vs Kansas ticket tracker- lower bowl very close to a sellout

UTSA is CUSA. We’re Big12 now. Different standard. I used them as an example to show that even they strive to have attendance in the 40,000 range. They were concerned about their attendance before our game.

I’m going to go out on limb here. UTSA should not be a barometer for us in anyway if we’re heading in a direction we went to be heading in.

Who brought up UTSA first?

I did, NTXCOOG, I did. I even explained the sole reason why:

“I used them as an example to show that even they strive to have attendance in the 40,000 range.” and yet they are in CUSA, while we are in the Big 12 now. We shouldn’t be happy with 28,000. That will get criticized in the Big12.

Actually Dana is talking about it right now. Tune into 950am.

This is still Kansas football we’re talking about. They haven’t won more than 3 games since 2009.

They went 2-10 last year and winless in 2020.

They’ve won a total of eight XII games since 2009 with a whopping 106 losses including five winless conference seasons in that span.

They’re arguably the worst Power program in the nation and would’ve finished in the bottom half of the AAC almost every year this last decade.

28k that @Gdashman predicts would be perfectly understandable given the opponent, weather and the deflating game last week imo

Could care less anymore how many show. We are going to be there and cheering on my favorite U.
And it ain’t Kansas

So, you’re saying that we should only go when the right opponent comes to town? When the weather is a perfect 70 degrees? When the paint on the stadium is at the perfect hue? When they bring back turkey leg hut? When they replant palm trees? When the right merchandise is sold at the stadium
? Not because it’s a future Big12 opponent. Not because we want to watch the home team play? THIS is why our program has been where it has for so long. We’re getting better but still need a huge culture change.

What we’re saying is its hard to compare Houston to baylor or Tech who are in the middle of nowhere. Houston sports fans are fairweather, even for the pro teams.there is a lot competing for their entertainment dollars even outside of sports. Obviously everyone on this messageboard is preaching to the choir. So im saying if our draw against kansas is comprabale to baylor’s against the same opponent would be, which it is, thats pretty good. Because our fans are hard to get the attention of, especially when conditions are less tham ideal. I do think it will get better as we get further into to the big 12, but expecting a generational change over night is unrealistic. To me if we get 40K sold or a “sell out” by kick off, and have 30k+ seats in butts that tells me the culture is changing! But it changes over time. All we can do is come early stay late and wear red.

I get your point but don’t we have over 100,000 alumni in town? I’m not even looking for the casual Houstonian. How come we can’t get a good chunk of those alumni to come to games? We need to a culture change on campus where we make it a point to get people to go to games. We need a movement to ingrain that in them.

Totally agree, but how many of those 100,000 came to school when the team was non-competitive, and UH was cougar high? I am 25, and I grew up watching the briles and sumlin coogs when my brother played and now I have graduated having watched the peach bowl victory etc. I have had positive memories, my whole life and will want to share that with my kids, etc. But again that takes time to build the next generation of fans who grew up knowing that UH was relevant and having positive memories and experiences that will want to be active alumni vs, just having a degree on the wall. I know it can be hard to see the forest through the trees, but things are changing. And tomorrow will be a good test. I’m hopeful that we have over 30,000 and it’s a hell of a crowd. But if we have 28,000 to 30,000 butts in seats tomorrow I feel like that’s a win and a step forward. Not that we don’t have further to go but that we’re headed in the right direction. .

You make a good point and it’s a step but I still don’t think it’s something to be proud of.

I asked my best friend from Bauer if he’d be at the game Saturday.

He said, “what game?”

Ha this a good point! Case of the 1990s Oilers. In those days the game had to be a sellout in order for it to be televised in Houston. Every week it came down to the wire with corporate partners buying up remaining tickets to do the TV fans a favor. And mind you the Oilers were a top 10 team for four straight years and Super Bowl contenders 1991-1993.

The XII are all college towns aside from TCU. OKC and Austin of course are major metros but those two are blue bloods anyway. If UH goes on a run in the XII I’d definitely expect 40k crowds that season.

Here are the TDECU games with over 35K per Wiki. Lots of ‘15 and ‘16 entries by no coincidence. If they win they will come!

Is your friend a football fan? I asked my niece about the mid term elections and she just gave me a blank stare, guess people dont care about voting :joy:

Exactly. When the rockets were playing the warriors in the WCF every year the whole city where rockets fans, right now we are astros fans. Hell everyone were texans fans for a few years there when we played the patriots for the AFC championship. If houston can make its way to a NY6 then next year should have no problem putting butts in seats

He’s a soccer fan from South America. I don’t think I’ll ever get him interested…but I try.

:joy: yeah wrong kind of football fan.

It’s tickets sold that is recorded. If folks don’t show up and use their tickets, those tickets are still counted.

There is some strategy to it…but its annoying if you buy certain seats and then later see the seats you really wanted are now available. I had to change some of the season tickets I bought because seats that were more desirable for me later popped up as being available.

We’re gonna have over 30k , I’m confident
