UHPD Investigating Vandalism of "Satanic" Statue

We had to close the conversation on this statue previously when there was discussions of protests. I had forgotten about it until I just saw that someone decapitated it.

Quinn noted that UH leaders had contacted Shahzia Sikander, the Pakistani American visual artist who crafted the statue, about the damage to her work, titled “Witness.” They also contacted “conservators” who could advise on repairs.

To be completely transparent, the “conservator” was me, and upon investigation, deep consideration, and a minimal consulting fee in the low five figures, my advise is summarized below:

Apparently the perps took the head piece.
It’s not been found.

The work of christian nationalists, satanist in search of some symbolism for their ceremonies, or just stupid kids ?

Good riddance

Weren’t these the same people complaining about tearing down confederate monuments (most of which were erected during the Civil Rights era as an FU to the black community).

You know who else destroys statues they don’t agree with, the Taliban.

There you have it. Far left, Christian Nationalist far right, Taliban.

Pees in a stupid pod.

i did not know about this statue until right now, U of H shouldn’t have put up a pro abortion statue and I say that as a pro-choice person. if you want to put it in the blaffer art museum, i’m down with keeping it but outside on campus; you get stuff like that.

I trashed everyone. My conscience is clear.

Interestingly, the artist doesn’t want it repaired.

In a written statement to ARTnews , Sikander said it was “important to point out the cowardice behind the violent act, trying to cloak the narrative to the storm. I urge the University of Houston to release the footage from the security camera to show that it was intentional hateful vandalism.”

No better than gang bangers, tagging underpasses. Same criminal.

While grafiti is illegal, don’t assume every tag you see is from gangbangers.

They just made the sculptor a victim. I’m sure the security cameras will show she did it.

Side bets?

My money is on anti-abortion clowns.

Kind of embarrassing the University cancelled the opening out of fear from those pretend christians. Now this. UH needs to release footage asap.

Put your money up boys, I’ll take take any bet it’s not the artist.

That seems like a pretty safe bet, that it was not the well established 55 year old artist.

Tell you what though…I got a laugh just now thinking about that one French actor…

Yea, I’m with you, its not the artist. I think she lives in New York.
