I can’t wait to go back to the state in a few years and get more money thrown at us when we mention the PUF.
I sure hope we get that additional BILLION from the legislature soon!
Thanks for keeping this going!
Just waiting for that November vote to DOUBLE it!
Wow ! Who would ever thought UH is a Billion Dollar University ! Credit to Madam Khator!
Go Coogs…Eat Em’Up !
In nov we vote to get another billion so in nov please vote yes. I’m not sure what it will say but prob a fund for us, tech and 1 other school or so
We’ve been a billion dollar school for a while now, as far as its yearly budget goes. I think last year it was 2 billion. We should advertise this more to the city. We pump in $2 billion to the economy.
I guarantee ut and Texas S&M will want a slice.
They aren’t. It’s for UH, tech , Texas st and maybe 2 others but us and tech get 1 billion if the vote in nov passes.
The University of Houston System’s endowment has crossed over the $1 billion mark, placing it among the country’s wealthiest institutions.
UH’s endowment growth comes alongside the main campus’ major efforts to advance in esteem as a top research university. (One of those is a separate state-managed endowment that goes to voters in November.) The most prestigious institutions, especially private ones, have been notoriously hard to catch up to as they have massive endowments that take the weight off other funding mechanisms, such as federal and state allocations.
Harvard University’s endowment in 2022 was the highest in the country at $49.4 billion; the University of Texas System is next at $42.7 billion; and Yale University is at $41.2 billion, according to a report from the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Dozens of others followed, including Rice University with a $7.8 billion endowment.
The University of Houston System remains far behind those leaders, but reaching $1 billion at least puts it in a coveted group – just 20% of colleges and universities nationwide have endowments valued above that threshold, the business association reported last year. Those 132 institutions make up 84% of the combined value of all endowments.
When we double it to $2 billion with the passage of Prop 5, we will be in SUPER elite territory.
Thanks for posting this.
Now, will this article help or hurt the November vote ? There may be some that say “they already
have a billion, why do they think they need more of my money or another billion ?”
Personally, I think it will pass by wide margin; but admittedly I’m looking at thru scarlet red colored
glasses.
Do people read? Lol
4Q2023 endowment posted online now. Good quarter with increase of 45 million.
Most of that due to realized and unrealized appreciation; but there was about $7.7 million in donations too.
$ 1,065,000,000.00
Now we need to DOUBLE that with Prop. 5!!!
Endowment up slightly by $3 million for 1Q24 to $1,068,000,000.
Investment income a rather modest $4 million.
Contributions a paltry $1.75 million this quarter.
How does this compare to contributions in recent quarters?
Seems like Q1 is always our weakest quarter. It was 1.74 in 2023
Its was 2.7 in 2022 and 2.6 in 2021.
Does anyone know when we are supposed to receive the New PUF money that was approved in November?
