University of Houston's Pi Kappa Phi chapter shut down after alleged hazing

That was quick - must have been pretty terrible.

If those kids had come to the game, none of this would have happened. :sunglasses:

Sad to hear my chapter will no longer be around - made my UH years very memorable, glad to have been a part of it & even more glad to be a Coog

Greek life at UH will be over soon.

Well, if all the Greeks at UH are illegally hazing and abusing their pledges and putting their safety and lives at risk, then yes Greek life will be over as it should be. No student org is worth having on campus if they are abusing our students. Not to mention the bad publicity and the drag on student recruitment it could have.

Follow the university policies and there should be no problems.

Agreed. I hope that is not the case and this was just one bad house. I really don’t want to see Greek life go away but even more so I don’t want to see this type of crap going on anywhere.

I hope this is not for minimal hazing……of course if it was something dangerous then step in and shut it down.

But every pledge goes in knowing they need to eat a little sh-t….
I ate a truckload but then I made life long brothers.

The quickness of the decision and the fact that the dude ended up in the hospital tells me it wasn’t minimal.

Maybe a soy reaction? No epi’s around?

If that is the case then unfortunately a couple of guys screwed the entire chapter.

There’s been way too many suspensions for UH Greek life over the last decade.

For the size of the community here relative to other campuses, it’s a damn shame really.

Taking things way too serious here with the hazing.

You sound like you’re looking for a way to excuse bad behavior.

However, you’re likely biased here as you pay attention to what happens at UH. Unless it makes national news, you likely won’t notice if other campuses of similar size have the same rate of incidents or not.

I wouldn’t say that.

There was no hazing in my college fraternity chapter, and if there had been, then I would have automatically de-pledged and looked elsewhere.

Some articles I’ve read have said that the person who was hospitalized (now released) was a non-student, and that the hazing was reported to UH by the fraternity’s national chapter.

To me, this points to a situation where fraternity members reported it to their chapter, which investigated the claims, took action and shared its findings with UH. I don’t have the details of what happened, but the aftermath seems to have been handled responsibly. This fraternity will be back on campus soon.

Any fun hazing memories you look back on?

Good grief Duce….that was a joke.

I already said if it was a bad deal then they should lose their chapter……

I have also seen “false alarms “ where kids that did not get in the chapter of their choice make up things or stretch the truth because they have hurt feelings.

I have seen this multiple times.

I also find it interesting that usually the people who shout from the rooftops are folks that were not involved in Greek life whatsoever and have zero idea how any of it works.

Scavenger hunts are fun. That’s hazing technically

Like I said……people jump to conclusions and want to vilify fraternities……95% of frats have ZERO problems.

Thank you for posting that @coogman91 .
