UNLV QB redshirts

That’s the RB

Many on here risked their corporal beings far from home and loved ones for a salary so low they qualified for food stamps. Some out there now.

Per the UNLV board,

ALLEGEDLY the RUMOR that’s going around is that UNLV’s NIL collective paid for Sluka’s vehicle, place to stay, etc.

After they beat us, he went to the collective and said he needed a better car. He was told they would look into it.

After beating Kansas, he asked for more money but was told that the NIL Collective couldn’t afford to pay him more. He then asked about when his new car was coming, the NIL Collective said no dealership would take their asking price for what he wanted.

He allegedly went to the coaching staff about the money, was told they couldnt do anything about it. So he stormed out and quit.

Take all of this with a grain of salt since we cant verify the authenticity.

Honestly, all of that sounds way more plausible than him being promised $100K.

Of course, when he loses one or more games, he will gladly give back the nicer car…

Both stories could be right. Imagine they ofer 100K and he agrees. Then he gets better offers but keeps to his word.

Now imagine that instead of paying the 100K they start nickel and diming him like in the story. He stuck to his word and killed it on the field and not only are they not paying him 100K but not even honoring his smaller requests either.

I’d b e pissed also

RG3 is stating the obvious but let’s be real. No side is going to honor their agreement. Both sides want to make things favorable for themselves.

That’s why NIL will be one of the worst things to happen to college football. Not because we’re finally openly talking about money, but because it further highlights the greedy and selfish nature of people.

As always the real losers in this situation are the fans. UNLV has the 6th worst win% of any FBS program. Prior to this week they’d never been ranked. They haven’t enjoyed consecutive winning seasons since the early 80’s. Their fan base finally has the makings of a dream season and this is what happens. Absolute shame. Hope their back up is quality.

Is this employment or higher education with extracurricular activity? The lines have been blurred and it’s kind of annoying from a fan perspective. I get it, they’re entitled to a slice, but the whole feel of college athletics is weird now. I don’t want updates about who’s not getting paid , highest NIL earners etc, players getting Ferraris etc. Just sports updates please lol

The UNLV collective has already confirmed that all Sluka has received is a $3K stipend for moving expenses. That’s it. Everything else from UNLV is BS and spin. The kid got screwed. Plain and simple. Imagine what it would take to walk away from a potential playoff situation as a starting QB. It’s about the money, but it’s not JUST about the money.

Apparently not much. If being the starting QB in the playoffs was more important than whatever deal he did or didn’t have, then we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

There’s something more to this, but assuming this kid is not peddling BS is pretty naive.

I’ve read a bunch about this today, and it’s pretty clear the OC mislead him to get him to come there. Then he got the run around once he got on campus. Then the coaches wouldn’t help and the trust was broken. I feel for the kid. Everything that comes out of the UNLV side makes zero sense.

That’s just the Sluka side of the story lol

Yep.

Good point… I’ve heard they don’t always deal in the actuals and factuals over there.

That’s really weird that a group of message board fans would be perceived as being fact challenged.

We don’t ever have to worry about that on this board.

I’m really curious to see if there are players from other schools who shut it down and redshirt due to NIL promises just like Sluka. I have to believe that Sluka’s situation is not the only one

One lesson from this, don’t take a guy in the portal that still has his redshirt
