UNLV QB redshirts

Matthew Sluka will redshirt and transfer from a team that is 3-0 and looking to earn a spot in the playoff. Rumor of course is he was offered more money from another school. College football post NIL. It’s broken.

Who the heck would pay this guy more? He isn’t much of a passer. This makes it seem like UNLV didn’t pay up. Dude is going to be lucky to get a spot on Holy Cross again. Wouldn’t feel bad for him. I think it’s a really dumb move to basically say it’s because he didn’t get his bag.

I miss the BCS era I grew up on

What does BCS have to do with this?

Just the pre CFP NIL world, feels like one domino after another since the BCS came down is what I meant. Sorry, should’ve been more descriptive

I hear ya. NIL is a mess right now. However, I think the 12 team CFP will be great. AQ for the league we are in, teams hosting playoff games, and G6 access.

I actually think he is pretty good. Not the best or most athletic but he’s definitely a dual threat with a high IQ type QB.

I’m hoping Carlisle is ready to compete for a starting job but if he’s not quite ready, Sluka would be a replacement until he’s ready to take the reins.

Yeah, just saw that myself.

Too bad for a program that’s had a hot start to its season.

Their backup Williams might be more talented. He’s not as seasoned as Sluka but he’s a good runner and threw the ball well at Campbell.

This sucks and is a reflection of the state of college athletics, but how can you blame this kid?

It is what it is. Athletes are making these universities tons of money. Kids deserve a slice. If they get offered better benefits somewhere else, then they have every right to capitalize.

I don’t blame the players. They are playing the system that was created. Imagine the NFL if everyone was a free agent at the end of the year.

So i wonder how often this hapems and the player doesn’t say anything? These players probably never see half the things they werr told they would get. Wish Alton would do a tell all about his CU experience

Raise your hand if you would continue to go to work if you suddenly stopped receiving paychecks for the amount you and your emoloyer BOTH agreed to pay you?

It’s not considered work, it’s college lol, student athlete. College athletics is just about ruined, what about his teammates? Undefeated and a chance at a CFP birth? It’s a team sport not just about me me me me all the time with these guys, piss on him, the team should ban him from practice and the facility. This crap has to stop, same thing with opting out of the bowl game because your scared your gonna get hurt, it hurts the team

It’s labor that does irreparable damage to his body and brain. I’d be mad if I got rug-pulled on money that I was promised, too.

His school was all set to go to the Pac 12, but then was offered more money by the Mountain West to stay and they were going to stay put. But then Utah State left for the Pac 12, and now UNLV wants to go back to the Pac 12 because the MWC didn’t meet its requirements (enough teams). That’s if the state of Nevada lets them go.

With all that going on, who can blame the kid for being pissed for not getting the NIL money he was promised?

So basically he’s an honest version of D’Eriq King.

Sad day in my book to hear. Promises not kept.

Not the same thing at all. Doubt he has any written compensation offer. They prob threw some NIL valuation at him to recruit and the deals haven’t happened.

this is getting a bit ridiculous…

so is his scholarship still going to be valid if he is quitting on the team?
