Exactly, Darth…Big 12 is just fine with 16. We arent adding any schools. Certainly not adding some MWC school that doesnt bring anything to the table…This is the same as the Memphis to ACC talk years ago…All talk generated by some school desperate to get in, and zero by the conference they want a bid from…CMON.
SDSU wouldn’t be that much of a geographic outlier; they’d be closer to Arizona, ASU, and UNLV than we are to Tech.
Bro, what? We did not want UCONN last year. But would take UNLV? Gtfoh.
Several great options will open up from the ACC one day
If they think theyre getting the Vegas lure of it im out. Im not going to vegas to see unlv…
Why VT?
They’re AAU. That’s about it.
We do not need any of these schools… the only schools we should consider are “select” ACC and and a big maybe for UConn. We do not need any Pac 12 or Mtn W schools.
Waiting on ACC the better option.
I’m 20 miles from USF.
Could get 100 + to a UH FB game there.
Still don’t want them in Big12 right now.
USF
Finally getting it started.
4 legit hurricanes in a year 1/2 & current economy
making 4 an expensive 35k seats.
If I were a Coog athlete, a trip to Vegas once every other year would be nice.
I’m not gambling when I say I am a solid no to adding UNLV.
Huge following in the South. It is also a “bridge” for WV. It “chips” away at the sec media control same for Clemson and fsu.
Sorry, I thought you saying Vermont.
I remember people like Dr. Khator were telling my uncle and other alumni in Dallas we were getting invited to the Big XII in 2016. I told my uncle “I’ll believe it when it’s official” and months later, the conference voted not to expand. If I was UNLV or any other school, I’d look at it the same way.
One prediction I’ll make is if the ACC loses a school, the phones at South Florida’s athletic department will start ringing.
My issue with adding so many teams to a conference is how do you effectively determine the 2 best teams for a conference championship game?
Would the MWC make those who betrayed them take a pay cut to rejoin since the new PAC-12 would be dead?
It comes full circle but pays better after all this grief.
The up coming mega conferences go big in a regional split.
Makes $ sense for TV/ crowds and travel.
Yearly cross region rivals and big match ups the exceptions.
I do not see any G5 schools getting a call up anytime soon as any school would be dilutive (no media partner is going to add a full share cost to the contract). Any article that gets put out is just clickbait.
For perspective, $12M/per school/year is the highest projected value I have seen for the new PAC 12 media deal, with $9-10M probably more realistic. Arguably every school in the new PAC-12 has equal to more media value than UNLV, USF, and even UCONN (UCONN gets ~$8M BE + ~ $1M Fball from CBSSN).
The B12 has a $31.7M/per school media deal. Additionally, how would it impact CFB playoff distributions? Under the new contract I believe B12 schools will get $12M each while G5 get $2M each based on the fixed percentage assigned to conferences. I can’t imagine the SEC, B10, or ACC would want to modify percentages, so a G5 school would just lower the per school distribution within the B12.
Ride with 16 unless some ACC schools become available.
Promotion/relegation. Its the only way i see a 20 team conference working. Split the league in two 10-team conferences-- Big 12 Premier and Big 12 1st Division. Last place in Premier gets relegated. Do away with the conference championship game since in a 10-team league it is moot and also because the CFP committee has devalued it. Premier members get fat cash money taken from relegated members and 1st division members get G-5 level money.
ACC implodes i want Virginia Tech, Miami (if available), Pitt, and Syracuse (market). The old Big East vibes will be awesome… might even entice Miami.
Off season always brings the topics.
