Upcoming Players Era Tourney

I’d love to win two then get another shot at Bama in the championship

It’s being funded by private equity so they have a few years to try it. At least through next year is what I’ve heard. Tv ratings, attendance, and tourism impact on vegas will determine if the investment is profitable, but it is funded for a bit to try it. I think they want this to be march madness light rather than a traditional mte. It’s wall to wall good games literally all day Monday and Tuesday.

I don’t think yall understand how this event is set up. We can’t play Bama in the third game they are in the same pod as us.

Aside from the million dollars they give you to come play, this event is actually crap.

First off, it’s uneven. There’s one pod of 10 teams and one pod of 8 teams. It’s easier for someone from the 8 team pod to make the championship game. Someone from each pod will play each other in the championship game and someone from each pod will play each other in the third place game.

In our pod, we face Syracuse and Tennessee. So the third game we play can’t be against Rutgers, Kansas, Notre Dame, Gonzaga, Alabama, UNLV or Maryland since we are in the same pod.

The third game we play will be against the 8 team pod. So it’s Creighton, Baylor, St. John’s, Iowa State, Auburn, Oregon, Michigan, San Diego State.

I could be wrong but this is how I have interpreted the format.

I don’t want to play anyone already on our schedule, so from the other pod I would like to see us play Michigan or St. John’s.

We can easily go 2-0 and get screwed and not be in the championship game, the winner of the Gonzaga/Alabama matchup has a good advantage to make the championship game because both have a weak second opponent they could blow out. Bama gets UNLV and would likely beat them by 25+. Don’t be disappointed if we got 2-0 and don’t get to play in the Championship game.

I won’t be disappointed as long as the check clears.

Thanks for your insight. If we go 3-0 it doesn’t matter what they call our game

True. We’re there just for the payday. But It’s goofy we can actually play Baylor 5 times this year and Iowa state 4 times :man_facepalming:

The only thing that would be disappointing is the “champion” receives an additional million in nil. Going 3-0 and no additional check would stink.

I don’t understand going 2-0 and not getting to play in the championship game. Is it based on margin of victory? I mean, in that case we’ve often taken our foot off the gas and put in the backups if we’re up big, would be an incentive to go all out

UH -10.5 v Syracuse this morning on the ESPN app

Expect a few teams to go 2-0.

Teams that go 2-0 will play in the championship and 3rd place games, assuming there are at least 4. Tie breakers are:

  1. Point differential
  2. Points scored
  3. Points allowed

The thing is you may not find out until after midnight on Tuesday if you’re playing on Wednesday or not.

Beat Syracuse and beat Tennessee and see what happens.

Just win. Everything else will take care of itself.

Some good healthy “running up the score”…

Don’t know much about Syracuse other than UH is a 10.5 point favorite. Any scouting reports?

Seeing tickets for this tourney going for less than $50 now. That’s for a session with 3 games. Reminder for anyone thinking about going next year, don’t buy tickets in advance.

Yep we got four tickets to each game at $45 each. Glad we risked waiting until we got here. Paying $150 per person per game is insane.
Doubtful this NIL tourney last much longer

Glad you guys saved some money on tickets, but just wait until you go to buy food or drink. Was at the MGM last week, fast food burger and fries $32. A coke, $6.50. Prices in Vegas are ridiculous and they wonder why tourism is way down.

Oh I know. We stayed at the MGM last year lol.
We are at the Flamingo this time and it is a little cheaper in cost. Starbucks prices are double regular stores

That was a Grade A butt whipping!

I was there and their crowd never had a chance to get into it…

Goals for the tourney: Win all of their games, play well on TNT and stay healthy. Playing in the championship would be a bonus to that.
