I think it’s good to have a thread about a potential updated Depth Chart Projection with the Weaver addition.
Potential Rotation Guys
PG: Dedan Thomas, Ikenna Alozie
SG: Mercy Miller, C. Weaver, Corey Hadnot
SF: Chase Mccarty, Bryce Jackson
PF: Joseph Tugler, Braden East
C: Delrecco Gillespie, Arafan Diane
I’m including these names since we know typically Kelvin doesn’t go beyond a 9 man rotation, but I put 11 to include 2 additional names that might be in the rotation.
Feel free to share your projections or any tweaks you might add.
Honorable Mention: Kordel Jefferson (hope he finds his way onto the court this season at some point)
Too early to think that Jefferson might transfer next season.
I believe Weaver plays PG. Between Thomas, Alozie, and Weaver, depth at PG just got stronger. I like that Weaver will push Alozie to become a better player.
He’s not a point guard. His handle is not even as tight as Mylik Wilson’s was. Maybe he’s improved a lot since the season ended, but he’s not a ball handler imo.
His 3 pt shooting % year over year is volatile due to the lack of attempts he takes. He only attempted 3 total shots from behind the arc in his last 7 games at UT so it’s kind of a throw away stat for him. But his ability to finish at the rim actually makes him a somewhat efficient scorer carrying a career FG% around 46. His stat line is very similar to what Mylik Wilson gave us.
This isn’t necessarily true… his frosh season he averaged 2.6 attempts per game and shot 44%… in fact I bet that was part of the reason why he UT wanted him…
But, you’re right about it being volatile since then… we just need him to shoot well enough from 3 to keep teams honest when defending him on the perimeter.
He’s actually better offensively than I was expected. I’d expect him to be a non shooter for Houston just based on the fact that he shot so few of them that he’s likely not earned a green light or knows it’s not apart of his game.
But he has maintained a very high offensive rating every year of his career. He scores well from 2, draws fouls better than most Houston guards historically and he doesn’t turn the ball over much at all.
Hes a gamer.
His offensive rating grew as the competition did.
118.5 on the season
121.6 in SEC play
122.8 in A&B games
128.5 in A games
This is a sneaky good get. Because he knows his role. He knows what he excels at and doesn’t try to do more than he is capable. That’s the perfect guy coming into a winning culture. Prob got him cheap too.
