Unsigned, though I saw two concurrences by Gorsuch and Sotomayor respectively.
Needs a US buyer or it’ll go dark soon.

Hopefully Temu is next. That monstrosity should have gone first, honestly.
The opinions were collectively over 20 pages long, but the gist was that Congress had the power to assess the threat to national security from a foreign adversary, and ban the app based upon its data collection procedures which could create a risk.
I won’t miss it. But my kids will.
I’m totally ignorant on this topic. Is it possible that China already has enough data they wanted to collect? I don’t use Tik Tok, so I really don’t understand what types of data it collects by what videos you watch. Is this too little too late?
They almost certainly use the data for a multitude of purposes, from training facial/voice recognition and AI deepfake models, to monitoring the effectiveness of the literal propaganda they push on the app, to tracking Americans’ movement patterns. To that end, there’s already been quite a lot of damage done, but asking if they’ve already collected enough data is sort of like asking if Elon Musk already has enough money.
Do our companies do the same thing?
Thank you for explaining that.
To varying degrees.
So its only bad when China does it?
Sigh…

From a national security perspective, it’s certainly worse when an adversarial nation is doing it, yes.
It’s most definitely bad when an adversary nation does it to the USA.
The USSC apparently UNANIMOUSLY agrees that Congress has the power to do something about that.
Unanimous is a pretty powerful statement in the SC.
Its ionly bad when they do iit. Don’t worry about us doing it.
Go America
I promise you that non-Chinese companies will gladly sell any data they collect to the Chinese and anyone else who wants it. .
Maybe a law that forbids most types of data collection by anyone is a better solution?
If we do it to another country, then they likewise would be perfectly within their rights to ban whatever application that we are using to do the same.
That’s not the issue.
Right
There is always someone willing to make a buck off the rope our enemies use to hang us.
I’m happy if this app gets banned
I don’t even care about the national security threats. The app itself is an abomination and needs to die.
Unfortunately it will just get replaced by some other similar concept
