Maybe they’re trying to position themselves as a future P5 addition.
10 years late
They spent their energy fighting UCF and never recovered. They were served up on a silver platter and pi##ed it away.
Just curious if Big12 leadership has nudged them a bit to look forward to expansion part 2.
Yes. Oops.
A day late and a dollar short.
Great market. Nice school. They lost their best in Renu.
That might be it…a commitment to the future might be enough to make them palatable as a 14th school with Memphis…IF the Big 12 would want to expand to 14
South Florida is reportedly on the next Big 12 expansion short list along with Memphis, SMU & Boise.
Cannot understand, nor have I heard, that SMU is considersd.
Rumors the expansion may continue to 14 but the top candidates are Boise St and Memphis. USF is scroomed unless Big 12 goes 16… and maybe even then.
I think Colorado St should be considered as a bridge for byu. They have not performed well on the field or court but they have more potential than Boise st and are closer.
When pac and big12 merge it will have 2 built in rivalries with Colorado vs Colorado St and BYU vs Utah.
Too little, too late for USF.
They were head and shoulders ahead of UCF before the AAC, they earned a BCS /Power conference spot, got their football team ranked as high as #2 in the country then… watched UCF zip right past them .
Plus, they let Renu Khator slip out right under their nose…and to UH which proved to be a major competitor.
Ironically, they had all the ingredients to be the #1 AAC candidate but squandered all of their advantages.
Boise would be a horrible choice based on Market, and recruiting territory…even Tulane is better both in Market, recruiting impact and most definitely better in academic standing. I really like Memphis but I think Boise would be a horrible mistake.
First Design Proposal for USF
Second Design Proposal for UFS
Almost four years after announcing the idea of an indoor facility, they’re finally breaking ground on a $22M facility. Please! They have no timeline, location or funding for an on campus football stadium. They will never build one on campus unless it’s less than $100M and as small as Tulane’s, but not as nice.
Damn! Now I only have two free Tampa Bay Times articles left!
Thanks
Lol!
As douché as SMU is, I’d rather see them in the Big 12 than USF.
With that said, their membership should only be considered alongside a conference bylaw limiting their band to one “She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain” per game. And maybe with better conference $$$ they could upgrade their band uniforms to at least the 20th century…
