2025 NBA Draft Key Dates

  • April 26: NBA Early Entry Deadline (11:59 p.m. ET)
  • May 9-11: NBA G League Combine
  • May 11-18: NBA Draft Combine
  • May 12: NBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm
  • June 15: NBA Early Entry Withdrawal Deadline (5 p.m. ET)

May 28: NBA draft withdrawal deadline (NCAA)

The last day for players who have NCAA eligibility remaining to withdraw from the draft and return to school for next season. Any college-eligible player who stays in the draft beyond this date won’t be able to return to school.

June 15: Formal withdrawal deadline from NBA draft

The last day for all remaining players to withdraw from the NBA draft.

Can anyone explain to me who the window between May 28th and June 15th is for?

International players? Really probably has more to do with NCAA not liking the NBA’s deadline so they set their own.

Private team workouts … the NBA as a whole stops hosting events … individuals teams start hosting events …

Who is withdrawing from the draft thats not tied to the NCAA and why would they withdraw?

international… you only get 1 draft and 1 chance for a team to commit 4 years to you… you might have accepted “pro” but not accepted your position in the draft

I don’t think there should be a deadline. Let the players go through the draft and then decide whether they want to come back

College teams need to know who will be on their roster so they can prepare for the season. Can’t let players wait til end of June to make a decision, rosters need to be set

College teams WANT to know

Whose interests are being served here

The players and teams. What about the players waiting to be picked up by a team or choose a team? They want to go somewhere that has some sort of certainty about positions etc. It benefits everyone to have a deadline. Imagine a PG comes here and Milos decides to come back in the middle of summer workouts. Now that kid isn’t getting what he signed up for

And an NBA team isn’t getting a player that they used a valuable draft pick to select.

This isn’t like baseball where there are 20 rounds of picks.

So the NBA has to guess whether a player will leave for the NBA or not - Or the player has to guess whether or not he will be drafted and where.

Rule benefits the NBA over the player

Well, the player is wanting to play for the NBA and make millions in doing that, so the NBA’s rules kind of matter.

There’s a bunch of players and just one NBA - they’re calling the shots.

I’m only refering to the NCAA’s May 28th deadline. The NBA’s June 15th deadline is in the NBA’s interest as it should be.
