I think it is good to question the use, but do we know the alternatives. If we know it can benefit some schools that serve the state, that can be good. If it is not spent on this, do we know what the alternative is?

Could it go to a specific technology building on the UT campus? go to property tax breaks on millions dollar homes? border protection? other? If someone has the answer that would be interesting to know (at least by me)

Those other possibilities don’t interest me.

Don’t be stricken with the condition “analysis paralysis”.

Educating the sons and daughters of Texas is as good as any of those investments.

BETTER in my view.

As I said, not voting yes on Prop 5 is just straight-up BAD COOGERY!!!

There’s a weird ‘did my own research’ group that tries to undermine education at every turn. It’s sad really. We as a society used to value education and knowledge. Now it seems there’s a non-trivial group that value those with strongly-held ignorances.

I think it goes deeper. I think a lot of Old Boy UTATM
graduates, their families, friends, and employees just want to see the World…

As long as that means us.

(I know. I’m a UT truther)

They want only the elites to be able to be smart to keep the power. That’s why.

Takes 2/3 of the house and Senate or constitutional amendment allow another institution to have access to the PUF. But when you look at the amount of institutional pie the PUF has to feed to support all these institution in the UT and A&M systems we maybe better off with this new Texas Fund. Money goes from the PUF to AUF every year for these institution budgets for research.

PUF is $30.8 billion , currently

Each year, five percent of the PUF’s value is transferred to the AUF , which then distributes the money.

Sources of Revenue - University of Texas at Austin.

They get about $1.54 billion annually from the PUF to the AUF which makes up about 12% of there budget
I figured there getting about $184.8 Million in there budget last fiscal budget year from the PUF

How big is this?

Even Forbes is reporting on it!

So 48 million annually right?

Where is this 1.3B number coming from for Houston?

$1.3B is the endowment. We can use up to $100M of the revenue each year to invest in professorships, research, etc.

ETA: from @uhlaw97

“ $1.3 billion is the amount of the endowment added.

$100 million is the annual revenue from that endowment that the school can spend as it likes on professorships, research, scholarships, etc.”

That’s correct.

And it raises no more than 2% per year for inflation. Additionally, it’s my understanding more money will be put in subsequent years for all schools in the TUF.

The 1.3B from the state along with the 1B we have already, puts UH and Tech above the level of University of Florida, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska (all big time state Flagship schools) and within striking distance of Berkley.

Truly remarkable.

So the endowment is $3.9B divided annually among the four institutions?

Is that correct?
