It is really hard (and not fair) to try and compare quarterbacks from different eras, offenses, etc. Because, depending on the criteria judgement, all of the above, were great quarterbacks. UH has benefitted from a lot of really good to great quarterbacks. One’s not mentioned above, but the older Coogs on this board will recognize and I probably missed one or two.
Bo Burris
DC Nobles
Danny Davis
Terry Elston
I just look at the list and think. Wow, we have had a lot of great quarterbacks play for us.
My initial post was in response to someone implying Connor Wiegman is not NFL Material.
I think he’s dead wrong. He’s a Conplete QB.
…and just to clarify any remaining doubt, I was never really comparing Wiegman to Keenum, per se, just pointing out the very same differences that several of you have also eluded to.
2 different styles.
2 different eras.
…and 2 completely different sets of circumstances / challenges.
I’ll say this though….
I wouldn’t trade QB Rooms with ANY Team in the Country right now…
The only real knock on Weigman draft-wise seems to be his durability with all the time he’s missed with injuries, but it’s a big knock. He’d have been a day three guy for that reason this year so good on him returning, he’ll get a lot more attention this fall with such a stacked QB class for 2027.
The day he gets drafted is still something to think about, however, as I’m sure you’re aware, some of the best QBs in NFL History didn’t get drafted on day 1.
My contention is he WILL get drafted.
And he sure showed his “toughness” this past year…
I just can’t state it enough, he was the “right guy for the job” last year, and this Fall, I believe the Coogs are sitting in a kinda “Sleeper, Cat-Bird Seat” with the QB situation…
I can’t think of another QB in the Big12 I would rather have.
I know a lot of folks will say Sorsby at TT, but we’ll see who outshines who on September19th.
I didn’t make it up. Someone ELSE said it, so in my response I went with it, because I wasn’t a Houston Fan, at the time. (so it’s not weird. Just a mistake).
If you went back far enough to read my post, surely you would have seen someone else’s post, just prior. Or maybe not?
I already acknowledged the mistake. So you’re just throwing fuel on a fire that’s already extinguished.
It’s all irrelevant, because, if you were following the conversation, you would see I was simply responding to another poster who said Connor Wiegman isn’t NFL Material… and it spiraled downhill from there. Not surprising.
First, I’m criticized for responding to a poster (who used Keenum’s Stats to make a point) and accused of “twisting” Stats in making my own point.
That’s MB Double Standard.
Then, I’m presented with a false argument about how I’m arguing Wiegman is better than Keenum.
Which I NEVER said.
Now you “Cherry Pick” something I said just to pile on.
Go back and read the entire thread before you jump in and take this entire conversation out of context. It’ll take about 5 minutes.
It’s all about people not being happy I made a case for Connor Wiegman to be in the conversation for being “considered among the best”, in a thread where the guy who initiated the thread is the one who put his name out there.
Lunacy
If you just want to argue, I understand. At least follow the discussion before you jump in and take things out of context, like so many are prone to do.
Connor Wiegman is the first Houston QB to win 10 games in a Power Conference in DECADES.
…and he just set a School Record with his Bowl Game performance.
He did these things despite having the most overmatched O-line of all the QBs in the title of this thread.
Houston Cougars quarterback Conner Weigman has developed a connection with former UH and NFL quarterback Case Keenum following Weigman's transfer to Houston for the 2025 season.
Here are the details of their connection:
Mentorship: Keenum, known as a “quarterback whisperer” in his later career, has taken an interest in mentoring Weigman as he leads the Cougars’ program.
Childhood Idol: Growing up in the Houston area, Weigman watched Keenum set NCAA passing records at Robertson Stadium.
Shared Legacy: Weigman is following in the footsteps of Keenum, often mentioned alongside him and other great UH quarterbacks after leading the Cougars to a successful 2025 season and a Texas Bowl win.
**Performance Comparison:**Observers have noted that Weigman’s style and impact in 2025 remind them of the “electric” play of Case Keenum during his time at UH.

I was in the Rose Bowl for this game. One of the reasons that we lost against UCLA has never been brought up but by your truly.
scumlin and arrogant kingsbury decided to do the following:
We were deep in our own half, 4th down and can’t remember the yardage and both of the above coaches decided to go for it.
I immediately looked at Neuheisel ucla’s head coach reaction and…his assistants.
They were furious and the entire ucla bench exploded. ucla had issues and was not playing well prior to this game.
Anyone that has played sports knows that momentum is crucial especially with football being a physical game.
What scumlin and kingsbury did was to galvanized and unite a struggling team. As a coach only idiots like these two thought nothing would happen. You can be good at x’s and o’s but you have got to have a minimum of psychology fundamentals. This was inexcusable for them to do that. This happens more often than journalists can recognize and the results speak for themselves. First rule in sport is to respect your opponent.
You mean the guy who started a game for the Green Bay Packers? If your point is that he is not an NFL quarterback, this is a fail. Even if Tune is a Weigman comp, he is a better Tune.
