Ware, Klingler, Kolb, Keenum, Ward, King, Weigman

I have watched Houston play FB since the mid 1960s when Bo Burris was our veer QB. We have been blessed with lots of talented QBs over the years. and as far as i am concerned, theyve all been great . Weigman is the latest…a terrific player who’s team won 10 games and had a great bowl win. Looking forward to another big year from him as a senior, and then on to Henderson in 2027. Nobles, Davis, Ware, Keenum, Kolb, Tune, Greg Ward Jr…We have been blessed. Sit back and appreciate it!!!

I stopped paying attention to the Heisman charade when Gordie Lockbaum didn’t win it.

Not enough Gordie’s these days…

Weigman will be one of the top 3 UH QBs of all-time (behind Ware and Keenum) if we do as well as I think we are going to do this upcoming season. We have never had back to back 10 win seasons, and I think that is what we will do with the improved roster. Considering we came off back to back 4 win seasons before he got here, that would have to put him up there.

If Weigman gets us to the CFP (which a real possibility), it would be historic for the program.

Nope- there are not.

Roger the Dodger was an All American, Heisman Trophy winning, all everything quarterback at Navy. The only reason he wasn’t drafted first is that whatever team drafted him was going to have to wait 4 years.

Oh yeah, I’m old enough that I watched him play college ball.

If we want to be historically accurate, the list should read:

Woodall
Ware
Klingler, D.
Klingler, J.
Kolb
Keenum
Ward
King
Weigman

Facts, not opinion or biases, matter.

Woodall played far longer than 35 years ago and Jimmy Klingler didn’t win

Woodall played in 1967.

What difference does it make when they played? He was a real good QB for Houston in the 60s and led the Cougars to a strong 7-3 season in 67, when we beat Michigan State 37-7, and beat Florida State and also beat Georgia 15-14.

Gary Mullins was our first great Veer QB.

He started in game 3 of the 1969 season, after we started 0-2.

Mullins went on to start 10-0 as our new QB. Including the 36-7 demolition of Auburn in The Bluebonnet Bowl.

In 1966 Mullins won a State Championship for San Angelo.

In 3 seasons UH went 26-6 with Mullins at QB.

The K/W trend has been going since the late 1980s and wont be stopping anytime soon once Keisean takes over. (Kevin Kolb set a precedence that first names count)

The reason why the guy from the 1960s doesn’t count in this case because there were decent QBs without K or W after he played.

It’s been stated countless times that we are talking from 1988 til now.

The fact that you guys keep having to go 50+ years back makes my point stronger

Let’s face it. The K&W thing is a forced gimmick by someone trying to be clever. What surprises me is how many marks follow along.

Yet you can’t prove it wrong.

I am always amused when the game is labeled as one QB against another. The Mayes against Arnold mantra is an example. The best I can remember, both QBs weren’t on the field at the same time. A more appropriate description would be Arnold vs Pat’s defense and Mayes against the Seattle defense. It’s not apples and oranges, it’s apples and walnuts.

Rarely if ever are the two teams equally matched on offense and defense. The Pat’s D was nowhere near as strong as the Seahawks’ D, and the same can be said about the respective OLs.

Maybe that’s because he’s not going into the draft this year.

OK, to clarify the Keenum Heisman issue; Case never won the Heisman – but he should have. Now don’t go muddying the water with stats, records, etc. of whoever did win it back then because I don’t care. To me all else is irrelevant, and it should have been Case; I will stick with that thought.

If you wanted to limit it to 1988 and beyond, then fine. You didn’t specify that in your original post.

Better to have done some research to include all UH starting QBs throughout our history. Adds more relevance to the whole K/W quarterback subject matter.

Gen Z and younger fans should know Dick Woodall and Jimmy Klingler.

Woodall was a winner. He was the UH starting QB in 1967 that engineered wins over Florida State, the famous Michigan State game, Ole Miss, Georgia, Miss State, Memphis and Idaho.

J. Klingler put up impressive total offense numbers and was second team All-SWC.

The team W/L record is not relevant.

IMO, the sum of history is better than part of history.

Arbitrarily choosing 1988 makes no sense.

Most people on here are not 100 years old and didn’t see UH football when they were still wearing leather helmets.

Andre Ware is the gold standard when it comes to UH quarterbacks. He won the Heisman and has his number retired.

1988 is significant because since that point, UH football has only been good with a K/W quarterback
