Way Too early preason polls

When they are listing our projected starting 5 they are using our best 5.
They aren’t going to leave Sasser, Grimes or Mills off that list.

If, at least Grimes comes back, we should be top 12 imho.

Please can we get there and win it before Jim Nantz retires…

AMEN! Jim Nantz and those of us who were in Albuquerque back in 1983 deserve to see UH win its first hoops National Championship!

Those are some heady projections. Wonderful feeling after roaming the hinterlands so long. It’s almost starting to feel normal being nationally respected.

I don’t like Lunardi…but I’d be happy with first round in Boise (coming from PDX) and then have Michigan lined up in the second round. Payback b#.

He lost me at Texas as a #6 seed.

katz has us at 27 and thinks we’ll probably have everyone back…

I like Katz…but his pro-UH propaganda severely slacked off this past season. We finished the season higher than 27…and we’re only losing one senior. What justifies #27 and not something higher.

Rothstein > Katz > my dentist on a bad day > Lunardi

That’s pretty bad on Katz’s part.

We were a top 20 team to end the season. Bring in a top 25 recruiting class, and only lose Chris Harris. Yet, he has Richmond ranked higher. That’s laughable.

Maybe Katz is factoring Hinton as possibly leaving, which I think still would be too low, but would be more understandable.

Funny, I was just thinking about this.

2017-18
Preseason: Unranked (guess that loss in the opening round of the NIT to Akron did not win over the pollsters)
Final: AP #21 / Coaches #22

2018-19
Preseason: Unranked (lost Gray and others)
Final: AP #11 / Coaches #12

2019-20
Preseason: Unranked but receiving votes (lost 4 starters)
Final: AP #22 / Coaches #23

I don’t see how UH cannot be considered Top 20 in the preseason polls. If Nate happened to leave, I guess that gives them an out but it would still be weak. This was a deep team all season so outside the Top 20 with the recruiting class does not make sense.

Also disrespectful to the league if the clear cut favorite isn’t ranked higher than 27.

But they are not P5 biased :rage:

the rankings are based on “expected” projections, talks about how he ranks in the video, that he is just going with the generally believed assumptions for players leaving (staying or leaving, but will adjust if things change), he thinks hinton is coming back… in his commentary notes “if everyone comes back” …he just has us at 27

makes a quick note about grimes in video that we might drop some more if he leaves

Six years ago, a dumpster fire, now, in the national conversation. Look at it that way…

Hmm. That’s weird then. I’m not going to get stressed about preseason rankings, but given that we were ranked, had great computer numbers, have everyone coming back but one reserve (and maybe one person who may have to leave), a top 25 class, and two redshirts available who provide depth (Tyson and Roberts), 27 seems extremely pessimistic if assuming Nate comes back.

I’m sure they expect to get more “clicks” and sell more magazines to P5 schools than the AAC folks.

That is how DCTF was always based.

He has Richmond above us so I don’t think that’s it. Katz has also had us ranked pretty high relative to others at times over the last couple of years so it’s kind of weird.
