Riddle me this: Coogs at #27 but UNC at 15 and Texas at #22. The reason for Texas: finished hot and assuming their “core returns”. Katz done gone Krazy.

I can understand UNC getting the benefit of the doubt but Texas hasn’t earned that. They went on a winning streak but what did they do before that? On top of that they lost there top assistant this offseason.

UNC has three 5 stars and 2 four stars coming in. I don’t have a huge issue with someone probably overrating that. Also UNC’s record was bad but they were still #84 in Kenpom, so it’s not like they were at the bottom of the ocean.

Texas ahead of us makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, though. They don’t even have a recruiting class next year. Like I said, I’m not worked up about it or anything but I’d be willing to bet Katz a lot that we’ll wind up with higher computer rankings than Texas next year.

UNC didn’t bother me as much but I will ask how many 5 stars and 4 stars were on their team last season?

If Jarreau and Grimes had declared for the draft, then I would get the UH potential vs Team Bs potential. UH lost a rim protector and some rebounds but not very much of their point production or leadership.

Fun to poke holes in these early polls. By the way, I saw no issue with the one that had UH #8…

Yeah but they were in the top 10 in kenpom for 5 straight years before that. I think it’s fair to give them the benefit of the doubt that they just had the wrong mix and missed on a few guys rather than Roy has completely lost it as a coach and/or talent evaluator.

their recruiting class last season only had 3 elite recruits and 2 were injured most of the season (cole anthony, anthony harris)…and becuase they werent very good the other 5 star is coming back (along with harris) …not counting Cole Anthony and bacot (the 2 5star from last season) all 5 recruits they have coming in are higher touted than every other player on UNC’s roster last season (unc heavily relied on mid major grad transfers last season)

all signs point to last season being an anomaly and not a new trend for UNC

Texas makes absolutely no sense, his justification for texas is exactly what houston is, but without the recruiting class and we were better than them last year…(return a lot)
oklahoma above us makes no sense, they werent that good and lost their best player Doolittle…
he notes oregon has lost a ton but says he is just ranking them becuase of track record (becuase sampson doesnt?) Rutgers at 13? Richmond?

Big name bias basically

True facts.

Even if they land a top 10 player like Greg Brown they have no business being in the Top 25.

Right. We’ve finished ahead of Texas in Kenpom four years straight and were 47 spots ahead of them last year.

Ultimately it will all bear out on the court (well, hopefully we have Nate and especially hopefully we have a season), but Katz seems like he takes his job pretty seriously so his logic here is pretty perplexing.

Yep he keeps moving us up when players on top 5 teams are declaring for NBA. It will happen to Coogs if Nate was to announce tomorrow that he is staying in the draft.

Number #5 is extremely HIGH :flushed: ranking… NICE

It’s about time we get that national recognition.

We have to fight and claw for it every year all year.

CKS has done masterful job.
