WB 25-26 Season

3 point shooting needs a lot of work but there have been quite a few nice drives to the basket.

UT-Arlington looks tired now. Constant pressure and running has wore them down

Congrats to the team and coaches! A very good way to start the season and build on.

20025 Season outlook
There is hope and reason for optimism this season.
UT Arlington may not be that bad of a team. They made the conference final and missed the NCAA Tournament last year. by 1 game. They beat UH last year at Arlington. The Reynolds sisters from South Bend Indiana were highly recruited.
Amiyah - 6-0 So - transfer from Purdue - rated no.35 in USA by Prep Girls Hoops.
Mila - 6-3 Jr - transfer from Purdue and Maryland - rated no. 32 by PGH.
Kira - 6-3 Fr - 96 in USA. Kira had 15 pts and 16 rebs against UH.
It is not unheard of for teams in smaller conferences - WAC - to get former High School AA transfers but to get a High School Freshman is unusual. If UTA can take care of the ball they have a good chance to make NCAA Tournament this year.
As far as UH it appears they will make a lot of progress this year. Last years biggest problems included lack of balance and inconsistent scoring in all 4 quarters.
I listened to the game I was not there.
Balance means you get at least 10+ pts from all 5 positions( counting starters and subs). Last year UH did not do this.
UH according to their Game Book plays a F and 4 G’s. 3"regular" G’s and tall G or winger or corner G or whatever … the position played by Pitts 6-1.
F - Abur - Rahim 16 pts.
G - Pitts - 12 pts
G - Peguro - 14 pts
G - Merchant - 3 pts
G - King - 11 pts
Ideally counting subs you get 10+ from F , 10+ from WG Pitts(plus sub), and 40+ ( since UH plays up tempo and presses a lot and shoots a lot of 3PtA) from the 3 other G’s.
Counting subs Jones G 13 pts, Poole G 4 pts, and Anumele G 1 pt.
I am not sure if Jones substituted for Pitts or the other 3 guards.
The Fr guards recruited by former Coach Huey - Jones and King(started) - neither of whom were top 100 players - played well.
UH was also able to avoid a serious Quarter slump like they quite often had last year. Ex scoring 6 pts in 2nd Q against univ Minnesota last year.
Last night UH had consistent scoring in all 4 Quarters: 1Q - 17 pts, 2Q - 20 pts, 3Q -17 pts, and 4Q - 22 pts.
Judging by the photos UH did not get 1,000+ in attendance(figure in Game Book).
I missed the first 5 minutes of game on radio …Is Jorynn Ross injured. She did not play.
I assume the 6-5 Fr from Australia Jemma Hunter is going to red shirt.

Ross wasn’t dressed, so she is either redshirting or injured.

We looked well coached on both ends most of the time. The biggest weaknesses are size and a questionable backup pg situation. I think the shooting was bad due to shot selection and the players are getting used to the 40 mins of pace that Mitchell wants.

Also the 2 freshman King and Jones are going to be really good foundation players for the program. They both were impressive.

I was there last night and had a wonderful time. We were no way near 1000 at FC but the Spirit of Houston was amazing once again. Cheerleaders and Cougars Dolls were there as well. Our WBB program has been dead for a while so I can understand there won’t be many fans at the game. I think Coach Mitchell can and will revive the program to compete in B12. The ladies play hard and aggressive on both end of the courts. Win more games and hopefully can we can get few thousands to show up and support the team. Definitely more exciting to watch the women play in person than watch them on TV.

The ladies are playing hard. Need to move the ball around more. Like the defense tho.
