Nice job by Nuñez
Love the hire!
Seems like an astute choice.
Then again, that’s what we were saying about Hughey when he got hired back in 2014 ![]()
Welcome back to college basketball Matthew Mitchell
Hughey had NO college head coaching experience when we hired him.
This guy has been a P2 head coach, an SEC champion coach, and an Elite Eight level head coach.
Given that…I’d say that this is a FAR MORE astute choice than Hughey was in 2014!
Or if nothing else, a more proven performer and lower risk hire.
Consider this. UH has NEVER made a women’s elite eight…or even a Sweet 16. So we just hired a head coach with more of a track record of success than ANY in our school’s history!
Does anyone know how NIL is looking for women’s basketball? He has good facilities, now we just need fans to want to go to those games.
Hughey’s resume pre UH was actually terrible… he was an assistant of a 10seed Florida state team with no Hc experience
he was hired when we still had to be taking chances on coaches like we did with briles in football
every one considered is a way more proven coach than hughey… but the program is a different place now
I like this hire a lot and excited to see what he can do.
The ladies Volleyball program shows the opportunity that exists. Selling out versus Texas hopefully sends a message to all, including local recruits.
Well, how many of those were UT fans though?
Wow.
This man could be an NIL Magnet at UH.
That brain injury a dark day for KY fans.
Mitch won & was a blast 2 be around.
Better camera angle of this in article below.
Should be free.
A fine singer & ‘Lil Nas X’ dance brings down the house.

Imagine if UH Womens hoop gets rolling ?
I like it! ![]()
I just read about this hire, seems like a huge deal. Nunez seems to be doing everything right so far.
Seems like this is an awesome hire that should be broadcast more
Is he good ? Damn he hasnt coach in forever… ![]()
Hopefully the game hasnt passed him by with NIL & Transfer Portal.
Good move. He was absolutely the best candidate of the final three. But I do think the move should have been done a week or even two weeks ago. Hopefully he has a staff in place already because he has an incredibly tiny roster currently (Kiera Edmonds went into the portal today - she was hurt and didn’t play last year but that’s one less body for 2025-26). People need to be patient - it’s going to take him some time to get it done.
I would think he probably told them he wouldn’t take the job unless he had a financial commitment from UH regarding things like NIL.
I could be wrong.
I can’t imagine this not being the case.
