We got screwed with Gonzaga

Dont understand the logic of the many who have us losing to Gonzaga, I do not think they are that great and we are one of the hottest teams in the country currently

  1. If we cant beat whoever we play in the 2nd round, we weren’t going to win the championship
  2. One question people aren’t asking is should Gonzaga be rated that high in all of the treasured Indices? For example UNC (1-12 Quad 1, 1 Quad 3 loss) is 33 in KenPom, 36 in NET, 25 in BPI. These “objective” measures still apparently cant junk their prior seasons bias completely or stop giving lots credit for losing to good/great teams.

Just beat the people in front of you and stop complaining. Its not a good look to be pre-whining about this

Some of you guys on here have such defeatist attitudes. We are the #1 seed, we are the bully on the block. Act like it. I doubt Duke fans are behaving such a way on their boards because they expect to win. The tournament is difficult no matter who you play. This isn’t going to be like the year we played double digit seeds all the way to the final 4. If we lose in the 2nd round to Gonzaga then we weren’t going to win a natty anyways. It’s not like things get any easier the deeper you get into the tournament so who cares if the Zags are an 8-seed and likely 2nd round opponent. I fully expect us to make the F4.

FWIW, it seems like only our fanbase is scared of Gonzaga. From my Yahoo bracket, 86.29% of brackets are picking UH over Gonzaga.

They’re giving up 70 ppg and don’t shoot volume 3s… I like our chances!

We aren’t Pepperdine.

Wish we had the view though.

Forget Gonzaga, Georgia plays in SEC. They beat Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas, notre dame, lost to auburn by 2 pts, etc… Georgia playing in sec has toughened them up.,

I think Georgia will beat Gonzaga…

advanced metric measure how the game is played not who wins… you lose on a game winner, it 0-1… you lost… to advanced metrics that is 1 play out of the 80 plays in the game …

every gonzaga loss came down to 1 possession… their average margin of victory is 24pts per (#1 in the nation)

so a ocunter argument, is if gonzaga made 3 game winners, and are now a 3/4 seed, do those 3 shots mean they are a vastly better team?

and to your point 1, this a luck tournamnet… the better team doesnt always win…you want as easy of an opponent to reduce the adverse impact of luck on the game

I wonder if he is one of those guys that’s can be very athletic with a slender, tall build

I have no idea what Pesik said but I’m in agreement on about 85% of it

sorry you cant “advance metric” your way into convincing me UNC is a top 35 team. Its just simply not going to happen. I get your points, but there is clearly something else under the hood of these ranking systems that favors known programs.

Yeah I want an easy path. But this is our path, its 1) truly not terrible at all and 2) not going to change by whinging about it beforehand. I can understand looking back whining, but not pre-whining

Much lower. They have around 11 loses already to lesser opponents.

That 86.6 ppg is pretty deceptive as well, given the conference they play in. For example, St. Mary’s has the 8th ranked defensive rating on KenPom (we’re 2nd). In Gonzaga’s 3 games against St. Mary’s, they scored 58, 67 and 58 points. The only other WCC team in the top 50 in KenPom defensive rating is Gonzaga at 29.

Some other notable matchups against good defensive teams:

  • West Virginia (15) - 78 in OT
  • San Diego State (13) - 80
  • UCLA (17) - 62

Seems like when they play a good defensive team, they have a lot of trouble scoring.

I want to beat as many SEC schools as possible. The middle/lower part of the SEC conference was very overrated. I hope all Big 12 schools clean their clocks if we play them in the tourney.

That’s the knock on them… they haven’t shown consistency to beat good teams… and we have a VERY GOOD team!

dont get me wrong, i think we win… to me the tournament is more about matchup than quality of team
i think the zags are underseeded and punished for their conference … but id have been more upset if it had been against a team that matched up well with us

we are bad matchup for the zags… they struggled with st marys, a defensive slow down team… we are a better defensive slow down team

  • the are an elite tempo team who scores in tempo… but not a great shooting who struggles in the half court… we wont let them play in tempo (They use the same philosophy as arizona/ but less tougher)
  • ike is not a good passer, our traps should work on him
  • their 4/5 is more offense than defense (who arent great shotblockers), jwan should be able to score on them
  • their guards arent tall- i thnk we can get shots up
  • their rebouding numbers are amazing, but i thik its like byu and inflated by conference… they are big at the 4/5 but they arent that athletic … i think our physicallity will get us boards
  • they havent played a team like us… they arent familiar with us at all…and have 1 day to game prep for our game… we are team you have to get accustomed to

they have some advantages too but i like our chance

I very much appreciate the information and think it can be telling. Keep it coming, Chris.

Facts. They got a 7’9 glass cleaner that was 6’1 by the age of eight. :sob::sob::sob:

We have enough trouble with length as is.

What if the matchup is Georgia?
