First thing I noticed… LET’S RIDE WILLIE!!!
One of these things is not like the other…
Hint:Pedo Pa
I think he said 20 years, on that audio, with the dude interviewing him from Statesboro
EVEN BETTER!!!
LFG Coogs!!!
Wow. This is hard to believe but it makes sense for our program. Instability at the head coaching position mirrors the up and down fortunes of our program.
CWF = coaching stability = sustained success
P.S. I can’t believe we gave Helton 7 years. The 1996 conference championship season was great but it was a mirage and then we extended him. Then we had losing seasons in 97 and 98. Somehow he pulled off a 7-4 season in 99 and beat LSU but no extension this time. Fool me once…
Then we hired Dimel for another three miserable seasons. The 90s and early 2000s were the dark ages for UH football. Thank goodness we have hope for the present and future.
It is hard to have long term coaches outside of a power conference unless you accept mediocrity or worse. Power conference teams will poach successful coaches with offers they can’t refuse($$$).
Now that we are in the B12 the pool of teams that could easily poach us has shrunken greatly. Teams like Baylor have a much harder time picking our pocket now
I was hoping that WR Stephon Johnson and DB Myles Rowser would be declared eligible this week for the Georgia Southern game, but the NCAA appeal and the wheels of justice are moving slowly.
The money makes it hard for any successful HC to stay indefinitely.
Win early, demand skyrockets, the temptation to leave for better job and better offer is too good to pass up.
Example….Sumlin, Herman.
Capitalism at work.
Forget loyalty. Those days are past.
Look at Clemson HC Dabo Swinney.
He stayed, but is struggling to maintain Clemson dominance.
Loyalty is a by gone era.
I believe Willie is the exception to this trend.
He’s at the pinnacle of his career and has all the resources he ever dreamed of, in the hotbed of HS football Players in the country.
He’s so tied in to the Houston area, with previous stops at Blinn, and Sam Houston State, and his coaching network and coaching tree are rooted in the greater Houston area.
He’s turned down $ before to coach where he wants to be, and he “wants to be” in Houston.
He’s way underpaid, compared to many of his peers in the Big12, and it doesn’t seem to bother him.
He’s living a very blessed life and the motivation to go somewhere else, just for more money, is likely far less important to him than leaving the legacy of the love and support he gets from being “the man” in a place he calls home.
IMO, Willie will coach, like he said, in Houston, for another 5, 10, 15 years until his health precludes it.
The only other way he would stop coaching there is if he wins a “Natty”.
He’s the kinda guy who likes to leave places better than he found them. It’s in his DNA. That same approach filters down to his coaches and
players. It’s genuine, and it’s real.
Coog Fans are blessed.
Everyone wants loyalty from the coaches but the coaches should expect loyalty from the schools. Have a couple of mediocre seasons and it’s adios, regardless of what all the coach had done that elevated the school’s level of recognition. Yes, look at Dabo, the fans seem to have forgotten the two championships.
Willie will take UH as far as the resources allow, likely further.
“More with less” describes him well.
I liked a recent post on the MB where someone said something to the effect of…
…can you imagine if Willie wasn’t constrained by “less”?
I don’t believe he would accept a pay raise unless he FIRST got more for his staff.
He always has been until he came to UH
The person originally responsible for us playing at Georgia Southern is the current AD at Boise State. He’s the one that lined it up.
Why is playing at Geo. Southern an issue?
Throw a bone to Clay Helton?
Just win. If we lose, it’s another discussion, but we’re not going to lose.
Georgia Southern’s average football attendance is 16,392. It’s record attendance is 26,483 against Coastal Carolina in 2023. I hope UH not only wins the game, but sets an new attendance record for a Georgia Southern home game.
I’m driving up from Orlando with my son. Staying in Savannah 2 nights all the hotels in Statesboro were sold out or priced like London. Looking forward to this we have seats lower level in the shade. The official UH tickets were in terrible upper sections. Supposed to be cold compared to Houston and Orlando right now
So this wasn’t Yurachek’s doing?
Clay Helton still had 51 games to coach at USC when that contract was signed. He’s coached another 55 at Georgia Southern.
Great! Ugly as ass white helmets again.
