They done pissed off the football gods…
Yeah, my bad.
Weak as carnival lemonade
Looks like a few of them are directing the reasoning for the early start time on our common opponent (UCF)
I think it’s also part of being in the Central timezone…
UCF doesn’t seem to have strong viewership. In the 16 team big 12 era they have the fewest viewership of anyone. While I pulled the data, the guy who compiled this data did hold ESPN+ games against you. If that is the case, UCF is averaging 286,000 viewers and Houston is 1.57 million viewers per game this year.
There could be something to the idea that UCF has something to do with it.
Edit: I get we added UCF because they are in Florida… but Boise State > UCF
UCF said no way they wear their home black shirts because it is too hot here. I am sure UCF will wear their regular road whites with a gold helmet. I am guessing we wear white pants, red shirts with white helmet.
Its the blue game
We are wearing blue
Oh, good game for it! Nice contrast to UCFs whites.
BS rule.
The excuses are MIND BLOWING.
We have a top-25 team
We are in the Big 12
Nothing else matters - SHOW UP.
This wouldn’t even be a thing for any college town team because they’d fill the stadium regardless of day/time/weather.
Just. Show. Up.
It’s lame, but it’s not unheard of. Northwestern turned down Tulane when they asked to wear white jerseys for the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina last year, for example.
A big Amen I never heard complaints for the early games at the Rob. I’m 74 is a generation thing about being in the heat?
In the Rob’s last decade of existence, we had a whopping TWO THREE early kickoffs (before 6PM) in September. Grand total of four five between 1997 and 2012.
#Perspective. From the same crowd that walked uphill both ways in the snow to school. 11 a.m. games weren’t a thang
That is what makes the recent stretch harder to take/adjust to
I had season tickets whole time at the Rob and I don’t believe that’s the case
So the count for 1998-2012:
Out of about 85-90 home games in that 15-year run at Robertson, roughly 30-35 were day games starting before 5 p.m. — about 1 in 3.
• Early 1998-2002: almost 50/50. You still had a lot of 2:30 p.m. and even 11 a.m. kicks (1998 opener vs Oregon State was 11 a.m.).
• 2003-2012: TV pushed it later. 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. became the default. By 2010-2011 most home games were listed at 7 p.m., like Texas State at 7:06 p.m. and Mississippi State at 7 p.m. and UCLA at 2:30 p.m. was the exception.
I miscounted. It was three in the Rob’s last decade, five since '97.
2011 vs UCLA
2010 vs Tulane
2007 vs Colorado State
1997 UCLA
1996 Cal
Before '96, records start getting fuzzy. In any case, it didn’t happen very often. We played 11 AM games later in the season, but mostly when heat was less of an issue.
September was also measurably less hot for most of the Rob’s run. In that 15-year stretch, there were only two Septembers (2005 and 2011) where the average September high was above 90.5; that’s happened each of the last 5 years. September highs were below 90 degrees about half of the time we were in the Rob and we haven’t had a September with an average high under 90 degrees since 2018.
BTW, you may want to double-check the AI; we didn’t play Oregon State in 1998. In fact, we never once played them in Robertson.
