When will we know which bowl game we are going to? Will it be after the playoff teams are announced?
I think the bowl invites happen around 12/7.
I do not believe that we pay our bowl travel expenses. I believe but might be wrong that the bowl sponsor pays for the teams travel expenses.
I asked Chatgpt:
Most likely bowl destinations for Houston
Currently, the bowls most frequently projected for UH are:
- Texas Bowl (played in Houston, at NRG Stadium) Houston Chronicle+2Wikipedia+2
- Alamo Bowl (in San Antonio) Houston Chronicle+2Wikipedia+2
- PopâTarts Bowl (in Orlando) Houston Chronicle+2Wikipedia+2
Why these are leading candidates
- The conference tie-ins for the Big 12 (UHâs conference) align with those bowls under normal bowl-selection scenarios. Wikipedia+2Wikipedia+2
- Major media outlets (ESPN, CBS, SI, etc.) have consistently projected UH to one of these three depending on how the rest of the season shakes out. Houston Chronicle+2SI+2
Other possible bowls
If bowl-selection committees look at different matchups, or if Big 12 standings shift, a few additional bowls could be under consideration (though less frequently projected):
- Liberty Bowl â sometimes mentioned as a lower-tier possibility for a solid but non-elite Big 12 finish. CoogFans+2CoogFans+2
- Independence Bowl â as a backup slot if more âpowerâ bowls fill up with higher-ranking teams. CoogFans+1
Letâs all hope we do not end up in the Liberty Bowl.
The question that comes to mind is in case we bring recruits what option would be best for them?
Texted a guy in the business. Said it depends on CFP but either Alamo or Texas.
I booked the Menger with flexible cancellation
Did âdepends on CFPâ mean if both Tech and BYU in CFP itâs Alamo, and if only Tech in CFP itâs Texas?
Iâm not stepping back into the Alamodome for the Alamo Bowl after what happened in the national championship.
Probably Texas I donât think byu will make the playoffs
2022 is the last year we went to a bowl, it sure seems longer than that.
Want a good bowl but also want an opponent that we can dominate. Need to build momentum into next year and carry that over into the transfer portal/recruiting. Unfortunately a big loss in the bowl game will be super annoying.
Both LSU or Missouri are the prime candidates. Iâd prefer LSU, I think they would be easier to beat than Missouri.
Unless you were there freezing to death lol. Feels like yesterday
Yeah, but it was worth freezing my butt off. Great game, Tune played well and pulled it out at the end.
Here are my preconceptions about the Alamo Bowl. Iâm sure someone will tell me where Iâm wrong.
-
Regardless of CFP, BYU is unlikely to go to Alamo Bowl. The blue cougs played there in 2024.
-
Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are not likely to get the Big 12 berth to the Alamo bowl since they are all legacy Pac-12. Legacy Pac-12 teams have a separate berth in the Alamo Bowl. Thatâs why Colorado was BYUâs opponent last year.
-
Regardless of CCG outcome, Iâm guessing Texas Tech is going to the CFP and wonât be available for the Alamo Bowl.
-
Top teams left are: UH (9-3), Iowa State (8-4), and TCU (8-4). Alamo Bowl gets top team.
As a result, even though it would be awfully convenient for me for UH to go to the Texas Bowl, Iâm guessing UH goes bowling in San Antonio.
Houston vs LSU at NRG would be a dream matchup. Please let that happen.
I thought bowl games were more about driving economic traffic to your businesses and less about attendance.
THIS is what i want.
The Alamo Bowl will pick a colder Big 12 School that would jump at the opportunity to travel to warmer San Antone
Bowl games are about making money for TV broadcasters. Thatâs why ESPN Events owns so many bowls. Everything else is secondary. If broadcasters donât make money, a bowl will not survive. Statements about supporting local businesses are simple virtue signaling. Statements about attendance are misguided; a bowl can survive without attendance as long as the broadcaster makes money (see: Bahamas Bowl).
Do players or UH admin care whether itâs Houston or SA for bowl? I would think UH would want to expand presence with a marquee bowl in SA where we expand student applications.
So youâre saying ESPN invents bowls out of whole cloth and it doesnât have anything to do with the city?? If you are I donât think you understand the order of bowl creation.
From the time I was little my dad got tickets to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport. The whole week was a boon for local business and there was fierce competition to get a piece of the pie.
