What Bowl?

This would be a fun one and IMO a solid game

Would like to get an SEC team as an opponent. Are there any ā€œtie-insā€ for the Alamo or Texas Bowls that would prevent this?

Since ESPN now controls most bowls, no, it is the TV schedule that matters

I’m wondering about this too. I guess a rematch with one of the Arizona schools is possible.

Yes. That’s what I’m saying. The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is a creation of ESPN in order to have more content. ESPN also likes to virtue signal with its bowl games like the First Responders Bowl and The Salute to Veterans Bowl. People on this board have ridiculed many of these ESPN creations. Do we really need a Myrtle Beach Bowl? Probably not. I could also live without the Cure Bowl. But as long as ESPN makes money with these bowl games, they will continue to be played. I’m surprised this is a controversial view.

ETA: Upon further reflection, I’m wondering if you don’t know about ESPN Events. ESPN Events owns and operates a number of bowl games. ESPN Events is obviously a for-profit entity owned by ESPN.

The CFP plus the Bowl Games offers viewers mind-boggling choices.

So many games, just unreal.

Most people will be interested in the CFP and not watching the bowls , most people could care less

If nobody watched, the games wouldn’t be played. Bowl season is a big deal.

I care. This is huge for us. And we will get a great matchup.

Bowls are still a big deal and get viewership.

If they didn’t, then they wouldn’t still be around.

IIRC, the bowl games, even now, draw substantially more viewers than anything else on TV this time of year, and the overwhelming bulk of the regular season.

If that were true, they would cease to exist. Bowls pull in TV ratings and they’re one of the things that’s still great about college football.

ESPN also buys bowls. The Texas Bowl is an example of that.

Finding a title sponsor is tough. ESPN has a rolodex of big money sponsors

That’s a great point. Those people who knock the viewership numbers of the minor bowl games need to be careful. A minor bowl featuring teams from the MAC and CUSA will have TV ratings comparable to a regular season Big 12 game. In other words, both minor bowls and the Big 12 regular season are worthy of broadcast.

Both guys on ESPN have us in the Pop Tarts Bowl

I care about OUR bowl but not really the other ones I’m sure it’s that way with most schools, but predominantly the eyeballs will be on CFP

Looks like the most mentioned are the Alamo Bowl, Houston Bowl, Pop Tarts Bow in Orlando, and YUK, the Independence Bowl in Shreveport. (Please NO). Looks like Iowa State and Cincinnati are getting better bowl considerations than us! That sucks!

I don’t know how B12 bowl tie ins are allotted, but I’m pretty sure the bowl committees look at attendance at home and equally at how many fans travel. Cincy and Iowa State beat us on both of those metrics. We have travelled well to some bowl games in the past and no so well in a lot of others.

Yep Iowa St travels for football and basketball they have an impressive fan base
