What was Dana Holgorsen’s problem?

As I’ve said before, the day we hired him reminded me of when we hired Dana Dimel. Fans from WVU came and thanked us, just like Wyoming fans did.

Ironic they were both fired on the same day this time.

Not sure how you can get burnt out being so lazy, but whatever.

The day of the introductory get-together at the club in the Stadium I approached him just to say hello and wish him the best of luck. He wasn’t engaged with other people for a minute, I didn’t interrupt a conversation he was having. Yet he acted like I was bothering him. So I got off to a bad start with him. No big deal, I still wanted him to succeed.

But as time went on I was struck by the team’s lack of identity for lack of a better word. The term culture gets tossed around, maybe too much in sports but I do think it’s something that a good coach instills. Three seasons back we switched our seats to the Cougar sideline. I saw a lot of our players the didn’t seem to be engaged in what was happening on the field way too often. I also saw some football basics that never improved, tackling for one thing.

I was simply never impressed with anything he did.

Take out the 2021 season, and 3 of his 4 seasons were sub-500. The program has been on a downward trajectory since 2021. UH is far behind it’s competitors in recruiting. The Administration has very high expectations and he was not meeting them. CDH’s own criteria in the B12 was to be competitive. Aside from the games UH won, does anyone feel UH was competitive in B12 games? Yes, UT went down to the last minute, but after UT led 21-0, you can’t tell me that you didn’t think it may be a blowout.

No one likes to hear the word “lazy” when their money is on the line. Above all else the fans that quit going to games thought he wasn’t giving his all. And they were probably right.

One thing GP and Willie are not, lazy.

I agree on that point. They both work their butts off.

  1. I think he realized that he did not have skills to manage/promote a D1 program.
  2. Stubborn. He would not adjust his game plan at halftime. In his last on field interview (UCF), he stated I am not gonna change the plan we need to execute better.
  3. Selfish, not a servant leader based on my perception.

If not more. I’m sure the actual games and even the gameplanning are only a tiny fraction of the total responsibilities.

Just let your professional results be defined by your daily habits. You should play like you practice. Whenever I provide bad results in my profession I go back to that to get my mind right. I was taught it by a guy that I despised. It has served me well. And now I think fondly of him.

Didn’t he get divorced while at UH?

I’ve been somewhat expecting this for a while and I’ve had all day for the news to sink in, but man it’s still so refreshing and relieving to see his name with “was” next to it

He was an OC that flew to close to the sun when he tried to be Mack Brown CEO style HC

Ultimately, he was too lazy to do the work necessary to win at a high level. His desire to win wasn’t a burning one. He is a great football mind but didn’t have the energy to do everything else required to win.

I would strongly consider hiring sober Dana Holgorsen as OC. It’s not really fair of me to judge, as I don’t know him, but would be interesting to see him sans alcohol.

He was a conman at every step. Pushed out a kid that scored 42 tds the previous year, forfeited an entire class and season of football, “gave” a million dollars to back to the university after, we extended him and paid him way more than he had earned, put his own son over our NIL Program, used his press conferences to try to convince us on why we shouldn’t believe, he told us every reason we couldn’t win lol. Even tried to say he had 60 kids to go out and recruit so they would not transfer. In order to keep his job.

Con scam all the above. Rotten and lazy.

Dana did not win was the affect. The cause is hopefully what Pez and Khator and Tillman knows. Bcoz that will be the key to hire the next person. When I hear that we cannot hire Rhett bcoz we cannot beat sfMU then I think we have a lot bigger problem that needs to be solved first as we hire the next coach. That is what CKS found when he took the bball job and he challenged everyone to build this. Football will have to 45 times that.

He was not a good guy. My only interaction with him was at the Final Four when he showed up an hour late for an event and proceeded to hit the bar instead of talk to anyone. What coach would do that? One who really didn’t care.

He didn’t have a Keenum, Geno Smith, Will Grier, and Clayton Tune to bail him out this year.
