Whats the winning recipe?

Texas Tech had an:

*Elite defense

*1,000 running back (Cameron Dickey)

*3-4 weapons on the outside

○But, their problems in the redzone were an issue all season

○their o-line play was inconsistent, with false start penalties

○Their QB wasnt a dual threat type. Pocket passer only

What do we need that Tech didnt have?

○Slade Nagle, say all you want. Calls a better game than Mack Leftwich.

Needs in the portal

*SPEED
*At Running Back
*At Wide Receiver

*SIZE
*Defensive Line (run stuffers)
*Linebacker

*O-LINE
*Need your tackles to give Weigman time. RT Dalton Merryman got blown by several times this yr, getting Weigman rocked

I think Willie Fritz with that Tech defense wins that game

McGuire & his OC made no adjustments

@T-Moar @banderacoogfan easier said than done. But, i believe that Fritz & his staff will hit on the portal again

G5 players turning into all conference players. Great pitch to guys

As you pointed out… Morton was a 1 dimensional QB… and very average. I always thought he was their weakest link. I thought Hammond had more potential to take them to the next level once he got more experience.

@kzappa unfortunate Hammond got injured. I think Tech fans knew Morton flaws. And liked Hammond as option B. Especially in the run game

Tough final game for Morton.

And yes, did i list every positional need, maybe. But, honestly front 7 more important than secondary in my view.

As much as Tech yards didn’t want to admit, their QB room was average. Morton had flashes of success due to their OLine masking his incompetence.

Our D is stout. If our OLine keeps the improvement it showed the last games of the year, we have a chance to beat them next year. Our QB room is vastly superior.

Yeah that season ending injury was a tough blow to Tech’s chances. Hammond played the best quarter of football I have seen all year against Utah. But he did come back to earth against ASU. Still, being able to run is a big deal and made him a better choice against elite defenses than Morton.

All in the OL for UH now.

TT OL not beat down but a bad match up.
Couldn’t get to 2nd level.

UH OL is so far from that.

NFL type OT is hard to find via portal.
Right there for big NIL $$$ after QB.

Trying it from High School.
TT has the national
3d, 13th & 96th frosh OT coming in.

UH doing same under Fritz.
Should start showing results.

If we don’t get more money we’ll never be able to score zero points like Tech. It’s gonna take at least 30 million.

They need the next Mahomes and a Michael Crabtree.

Indiana is in semi finals despite only having 6 or 7 blue chip recruits. Alabama had over 40. They have money now, but the current squad has a strong core of JMU players Cignetti brought over from his last job. Indiana is basically made up of 3 stars.

Money is a factor, but not a deciding factor. If money is spent on quality coaching and keeping the talent they develop, we can build a winning squad like Indiana has shown.

Fritz can do what Cignetti has done. We don’t need to spend a ton of money, just be strategic about the holes we fill and who we retain.

Look when Tech beat us they kept kicking FG’s because they would implode when they got to the red zone. That game should have been 50-11 not the 30 something to 11.

We need to get Austin Carlyle (SP) to stay and develop him as a passing RB or a passing Flanker. He has the speed ‘faster than a speeding bullet’ to be able to do some damage on offense.

@NorfolkCoog Fritz, Nagle & the Bell brothers are a good staff to build with.

Armstrong, i hope has a long tenure at UH. But hot Defensive Cordinators can be lured away

It aint all about money. Its guys that are hungry & play with a chip

Now theyre getting paid some teams lose that. Alabama certainly has. They lack that Saban toughness

Austin Carlisle is transferring out.

Ole Miss proved that last night and old Ohio State - you have a QB that’s a dual threat it shakes down the best of defenses in critical situations when everything else is even

Oddly enough Tech gets good on defense and offense is average

Tech had all the money, all the players, and all the hype.
Unfortunately the Techies didn’t bring their big boy ballzz.
They weren’t used to the pressure of the spotlight and it showed. (Fritz has more experience in high pressure games than their HS coach.).
When it came down to slobberknocker time, the Tech Oline looked overwhelmed and out toughed, as did their whole offense.
TT wasn’t ready for the bigtime,
They NEVER ARE.
I’ll take Fritz 6 days a week and twice on Sunday.
Fritz has big game experience.
He’s won championships.
We have improved- We just BEAT and SEC contender!
Fritz has found guys in the portal that we needed, plugged them in, and it works.
However I would love Fritz to bring in some more big, ugly, ill tempered offensive linemen.
Fritz is recruiting people that will serve us well in the future.
All UH has to do is support him let him do his thing.

Tech’s OL was low effort and disorganized in the cfp game. That’s why the offense was ineffective.
As a whole the Tech offense was low effort. No urgency. Did not treat the game as single elimination. Seemed like a job they were ready to clock out of.

I was surprised with TT’s lack of effort
