When Sakho subs for Tugler

One thing I have noticed is that Sakho is getting in earlier lately. My thoughts are that Sampson has decided to reduce the chance of Tugler getting two fouls early in the game. I think this will pay off as the season progresses. With a game on the line with 5 minutes to go, and Tugler with 3 or fewer fouls, we are a hard team to beat.

Appears to me that Sakho’s court performance is improving, and if he continues to improve, it’ll pay dividends for the Coogs when they enter the post season.

Sakho can play. He wouldn’t be in there if is a liability. As it starts to matter more he will improve greatly.

Sampson still has to yell at him to remind him what to do on offense in every game.

But the guy has some physical tools, and when he plays hard, he can be a huge asset.

Agree, whether this is the plan or not I think it will pay off later. Sometimes it just clicks with a guy. Sahko is starting to play with swagger. If I recall it happened that way with Harris. He was hit and miss until one day he started pulling down 12-15 rebounds a game. And thus became a beast under the glass. It was like one day he woke up and said, “no one can stop me down there.”

I just want him to know where the ball is on defense and be aware of it. The rebounding and dunks on offense will be there.

My thought is the coaching staff has done as much coaching with Tugler to reduce his fouling but not reduce his aggressiveness. That is tough to do. Tugler is such an important piece to the team come crunch time in each game, Sampson’s only choice is to limit his minutes.

UH is fortunate to have Sahko. As long as he plays with energy, rebounds, sets screens and doesn’t turn the ball over, he has done his job.

I agree! But playing under Sampson and being limited on offense, asking him to have just a bit of defense awareness ain’t much to ask for.

EVERYTHING Sampson is doing right now is about THE DANCE.

its probably the plan since he checked in pretty early when we played florida state and tech at home iirc

the thing is mercy giving us a nice 5-8 per game of the bench if he stays in the rotation is a luxury wheras with sakho we need him to get it together by march since we’re gonna have a game between the R32 and hopefully NC where tugler and cenac is in foul trouble
