You need two doses. One dose is 60% effective and you need the second dose within a few weeks. If you wait too long according to the medical people I know the protection doesn’t pop up to the 90% plus range. Right now there aren’t enough doses. I am 73 and I am checking out the sites to make an appointment to get the vaccine. However I was tested yesterday and I was told by the doctor who called me back that I don’t have it. Which was pretty easy to know since I have been mostly isolated since February with my wife except for going to UH games. We mask and take no chances. However as we are in the process of a remodel of our house it is easier to do.
Got first dose this morning
Will set up our first shot Monday at UTMB in Angleton
Coog51,
Smokers are high risk for any pulmonary issue because of their weakened lung capacity. Thus, high mortality risks. According to my heart-lung transplant coordinator sibling.
I’ve already had Wuhan. It was like a low grade head cold. I will not be taking a vaccination.
I lucked out and my financial advisor’s wife had an email with a link to sign up for the vaccine from Memorial Herman, as the MH hospital system (all hospitals) opened up the vaccine distribution to the general public this Saturday and Sunday. Received my first dose today and will get the second in three weeks. At Memorial Herman in The Woodlands they had their act together in getting recipients checked in and processed through the injection. So far no after affects for me and it has been about four hours.
We’re getting our round #1 today. Yahoo!
The Mrs. and I signed up for the Harris County wait list. We shall see…
Sign up everywhere, Galveston, Fort Bend, Brazoria.
Harris County allows anyone. Rich people from other countries are coming to Harris County to get free shots because there is no proof of residency requirements.
Yep. I qualify for Phase 1B but no one else in my family does. Signed up at a couple hospital systems in the area as well.
We are trying but everyone in Brazoria County is showing no openings at this time
I received a call from El Campo after I had left a message but I was scheduled in Fort Bend.
I hear the HEB in Brenham has been a pretty good spot.
Everywhere we have tried has no openings or waiting list. Gonna try Bay City and Fort Bend next
Sign up for Fort Bend County. They do seem to be pretty efficient
Sign up everywhere and keep checking back…squeaky wheel
The VA only jabs vets over 75 right now
Info some may find useful.

I signed up yesterday and got the first jab this morning
Received the second appointment confirmation for Saturday February 13. Hoping I don’t have the second dose reactions some are experiencing. I have heard ibuprofen helps with the reactions from the second dose.
Patty and I drove to Sugarland today for our first shot. The scene looked like a battalion of cars attacking some hapless volunteers. Still I was impressed with the organized fashion in which it progressed. After we cleared the check points and got to the stick station a big burly guy came over to the car, saw I was wearing my Cougar colors, and said “Go Coogs”. He asked, “Is this needle going to be a problem?” I think he was just being extra polite. I told him “No, it’s just like the Navy. Long lines, lots of waiting around to get a stick”. Patty’s arm was very sore later. I’ve had no reaction.
