Who is going to get the vaccine asap

Pfizer # 1 - Today.

Finally…good thing I called. Houston Dept. of Health had lost me in the system and didn’t initially show I had my first vac. The last week was tough on both storage and delivery and sounds like they are maxed out for the month. To their credit, they are going to get me in first thing tomorrow morning. If anyone is awaiting their second shot ant time soon, I would suggest a call if you haven’t received a confirmation.

Fauci says we may have to continue wearing masks even with vaccine in 80% of people for one more year and continue with lockdowns. Who does this guy work for and why is he considered such an expert?

Where did you see that? He just said yesterday with a majority of the country vaccinated and cases are low then masks wont be needed. Also said he expects ā€œsignificant degree of normalityā€ by the fall. I am guessing a news source has you riled up on purpose by twisting things.

Well beat me to this one… Yeah this clearly is either ones chosen news source being misleading or possibly a ā€œI did my own research situationā€ either way it’s wrong.

Yep. Selective news. I am not sure the exact interview noted but I heard him say we can expect to see people still use masks in Jan 2022. That is not surprising but thatnis different from mandates.

One of my kids who had it said he would likely wear a mask moving forward while traveling. I think we will see people wearing masks, by choice even when this is past.

If you’re going to post something like that, you really should post the quote and the context.

He works for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and he’s considered an expert because he’s had an extensive, highly-decorated research career specifically in Public Health. He’s one of the most cited scientists in any field. An argument that he’s not an expert is an argument that experts don’t exist.

Science on anything evolves. Some things are understood to a deeper level, some accepted theories are revised as we learn more (for example, Quantum Mechanics where we can see and infer more as instrumentation improves). Too, scientists sometimes champion one idea versus another when they don’t have enough information to agree, and pursue knowledge by trying to disprove their own points of view by performing experiments. In the case of Covid there are disagreements, but the consensus of experts is pretty clear what works and what doesn’t given what we know right now. Always gonna have outliers, and sometimes they prove to be right, but I’m gonna go with the consensus on what is literally life-and-death issues.

Amazing that 15 months out from first seeing Covid we’ve been distributing vaccines. We will find out more such as will variants resist current vaccines, will vaccinations be long term or require boosters, etc. Just the nature of scientific endeavor, as we are learning about Covid on the fly. In the meantime, I intend to follow the best practices available. If they change as we get further into this pandemic, I’ll adopt those practices. Get my second shot on March 3rd. I’m not sure whether the tracking chip was in the first dose or will be in this second one.

One of the astounding things about the mRNA vaccines is they may provide the template for quickly developing new vaccines for the next pandemics and maybe new therapies for conditions we’ve not yet figured how to treat. I expect like with all science we’ll have some hits and some misses.

My 93 year old grandfather was in line for dose number 2 a few weeks ago. He met a lady in line with him and now they’re dating. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
