Scary times for higher education both at the state level and the federal level. Growth for UH could by stymied.
Meanwhile, senators are expected to vote Tuesday on their proposed budget. If they pass it as currently written, which is highly likely, they will send the House a bill that would impose hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of higher education cuts. Each school would face a loss of 6 percent to 10 percent of its state funding in the Senate plan.

If that’s the case why not discipline UT and open the PUF.
It’ll be interesting to see Abbott’s reaction to the Higher Ed cuts. He’s been pro-Higher Ed all along so supporting this bill would be a huge shift in his policy.
Unfortunately, I believe a lot of this pushback on higher ed is coming due to UT’s machinations under McRaven and this is their idea to rein him in a bit. Unfortunately, they can’t just target UT and have to target the entire state which will have greater effect on everyone else.
So, basically, business as usual.
