Before the UT camp, Jalen Hurts got injured so the Longhorns chose to offer Shane Buchele over Jalen Hurts.
And of course in Mahomes case they wanted him to walk-on and play safety.
The amount of misses UT has on qb over the last 25 years is outstanding.

I remember being told at one point that Tony Levine was the first coach anywhere to offer him.

I think UT and some others only look at the prototype height, weight etc to pick qbs which can be wrong. I’m glad they keep doing that bc it leaves us room to grab a case k or ward or that new qb we’re getting in 2026 that the big programs just want as an athlete at DB or wr vs qb. We got Andre ware like that. UT wanted him at db.

Patrick mahomes isnt even that good. The only reason hes doing well is because hes behind a great oline. One that they already had prior to his arrival.

Good thing the Longhorns passed on Mahomes and Tech couldn’t win with him.
I think Keenum has more playoff wins than any UT QB since the year 2000.
He likely would have came here if we were in the Big 12 at that time.
Jalen Hurts also took an unofficial here. Again, if we had the P4 affiliation and facilities, we would have had a real chance of landing him.

Remember RG3 was here until Briles left - at the time we did well with the 3.5 type star guys who P5 would debate on taking but we would be all in
Steve McNair changed the game overall in the deep South for QBs who were athletes but not thought highly enough to play QB at the P5 level at the time

This post has me laughing.
You can’t always go by what 247 says for who has offered or hasn’t. Sometimes offers are left off and other times exaggerated. It’s generally based on what the kid reports.
If RG3 came here then Case Keenum would not have happened.
Sometimes things work out the way they are.
Old school reporting was rivals - way more accurate in the mid 2000s
Rivals and scout. Espn was terrible. Whenever we would get a player ranked nicely by rivals, we would use their ratings, then turn and use scout’s when they gave us a good rating. Like our 4 star stud tight end Jon Clark!
You may want to rethink that. He’s done so well because he is a great QB. He got this team to the Super Bowl with a less than adequate OL. You are opening yourself up for ridicule Christian.
