Ya know, after the UNLV game…

……I had us at most likely 1-11 with a ceiling of 3-9.

AND NOW……

A bowl and a winning season seem possible!!!

I was willing to let this go as Fritz’ regulation “freebie” sucky first season.

BUT NOW……

We might have a winning record in a P4 conference!

I LOVE being wrong!!!

I believe in our Team and Coaches ! My call was six and a bowl(Saab) before the season started. I remain at Saab today. I will now raise my call to Saab plus UH rated in the top 25 at the end of the year.
Go Coogs…eat up some Bear !

It was great to see us stay competitive against a team that totally dominated us last year. And to win it was really outstanding.

They arguably dominated us yeaterday. 95 more total yards. 21 first downs to 10.

You don’t win many games with that kind of discrepancy.

Willie is good at stealing wins.

Hell, Law, that probably makes you a pretty happy person in general.

You do when you turn a team over twice. We also won the scoreboard. Stop being a wet blanket and enjoy the win.

This year’s success is all about the coaching.

In a couple of years it will be a championship combination of coaching and talent.

The Wille era will be what would have happened if Jack Pardee had stayed or Tony Levine could coach.

Exactly! About half of the yardage “discrepancy” came when we were in a prevent defense at the end of the game. They definitely were not dominating us.

Regarding first downs……in the end….the only first downs that truly matter….are TOUCHDOWNS!!!

We had more.

Last week the passing game was virtually non existent…well…you know…except for the two touchdowns. Very weird.

This week our running game sucked… except for the game winning touchdown. Crazy.

Not sure how we’ll do it next weekend but…

Just win, baby!

I never felt like we were being dominated yesterday. 13 of their point in the first half came from a drive by e had them stopped and one bad play at before the half.
In the 2nd half they executed one deep ball were held to a FG and our defense shut them down from that point the end.

Half of their 95 yards advantage came on their last drive.

They did get a bunch of first downs, but we made them drive the field slowly all game. Their only real chunk play was the great pass for 60 yards.

We won on big plays, great D, turnovers, and field position.

Considering Kansas State was running over opponents, that was by far the best defensive performance of the season. Despite continued questionable play calling, the offensive score just enough to win.

At this point all I want to see is the team get back to .500. After that, maybe some excitement starts to build as the team plays for a potential winning season and or bowl game. It’s definitely not a question.

Looking into the future, these type of wins give fans hope of a having a program. This will help with attendance next year. They also show recruits that UH is a team on the rise.

Yeah, I had 2-3 baked in back then and am also glad to be wrong.

I figured the coogs would trend up, Fritz is too good of a coach; was rougher than I woulda thought, especially with Kansas’s game but progress seems ongoing.

The rain gets an assist in the win. It threw KSU off their game and the Mad Dog D seems to love playing in the sloppy conditions. Without the tropical downpour, it might have been a different result.

This is a reason I like a run first offense for us. We are going to have games in a downpour every year. Tropical storms down here and snow up north as winter comes are the norm. Fritz style is better for the weather

I feel the same way. Who is this team?

UH really only had three plays on offense:

  • 1Q: 44-yard completion to Manjack on 4th-and-2 to set up first TD

  • 2Q: 33-yard completion to Williams on 3rd-and-4 to set up FG

  • 4Q: 41-yard TD run by Chriss for TD

Those three plays account for more than half of UH’s offensive output.

Defense added two key plays:

  • 4Q: Interception #1 by Wilson returned to 9-yard line. Defense deserves credit for subsequent TD.

  • 4Q: Interception #2 by Batton that allowed UH to force K State to burn timeouts and burn precious 1:08 off the clock

Honorable mention: Defense forced K State to go 1-2-3-punt on three separate occasions.

For the second game in a row, the opponent outgained UH on offense. Each team converted turnovers into 7 points, but the effect on timeouts/clock made second UH INT valuable in its own right.

Despite this, beating K State in this manner feels as much of a steal as beating Utah.
