I’ll be getting around to Summer League stats finally this week. Been a crazy month and just haven’t been able to get to it as it takes a bit of research at first.

PROSPECT(US) PITCHER OF THE DAY - DANS TANNER GREEN

http://www.prospectleague.com/view/prospectleague/prospect-league-news/news_522556

The Danville Dans sent Tanner Green, (ND, 3-0, 2.36 ERA, 1 SV), from Lufkin, TX, a freshman at the University of Houston to the mound to make his first start of the season, Green pitched 4.0 complete scoreless innings, scattering three hits and two walks, while striking out five of the 15 batters he face, in the Dans 15-2 blowout of the Springfield Sliders.

Finally got around to checking on our summer league guys. This is all I know of, but I haven’t searched through every team yet.

I’m not sure if Ty Abraham is still with the Coogs as UH didn’t mention him when they listed summer league guys, but I figured I’d add him until we know for sure. Also have Bryson Hill and Ryan Hernandez on there since they’ll be with the team next year; both were JUCO guys last season. Bielamowicz has also ended his summer league season.

Interesting that Lockhart seems to only be hitting during the summer.

I don’t think the Coogs want their guys pitching a lot of innings during the summer if they go over a certain threshold during the season.

Yeah, Aguilar isn’t participating either which makes sense given his arm trouble in 2018.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for Lael at the plate.

VBL SUMMER NOTES
• Bayless, who is tied for second in the VBL in strikeouts (34), has appeared in five games, making four starts. He has a 1-2 record and 2.49 ERA across 21.1 innings.
• Brown has one save in seven appearances out of the bullpen. He sports a 2.03 ERA with 25 strikeouts across 17.2 innings. Hitting as well, the native of Katy, Texas, is tied for 10th in the league in home runs (3).
• Lockhart Jr. is batting .385, going 20-for-52 with six doubles, one home run, 11 walks, 13 RBI, 17 runs scored and one stolen base.

4. Woodstock River Bandits : 14-12, 6-4, 175/179, .290/.387/.416, 5.88, 1.791, last week #6. The week’s biggest riser, the Bandits join the top group for the first time. They can hit . The question, of course, is will they pitch enough to challenge the top three? The team has four regular players hitting over .380: Ward, Nagle, Escala, and Lockhart.

He had to come from this game, right? Our hitter of the day is Woodstock’s Lael Lockhart, from Houston, who was on base a ridiculous seven times last night. He went 4-5, with five runs, a double, two home runs, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and five RBIs. This was not only the best hitting performance of the night, but perhaps of the entire season so far. Lockhart is hitting 340/465/619 in 97 at-bats, with 30 runs, nine doubles, six home runs, 24 RBIs, and a 20/15 BB/K ratio.

Bayless is on the current roster, but this article makes it sound that he may not be coming back. Guessing it probably comes down to what his role at UH would be. His biggest issue last year was walks in the limited 5.2 IP he has last season; he racked up 10 walks in that time which was a huge reason for his 7.94 ERA.

As Woodstock River Bandits pitching coach Charlie Shepard got to know Tristen Bayless at the start of the Valley Baseball League season, he was shocked to learn just how limited the left-hander’s role has been at the college level.

With Bayless’ stuff, his approach to each outing on the mound and his coachability, Shepard remembered thinking, how was he not a starter?

Bayless, a Texas native, was set up for life as a pitcher at the next level after a stellar senior season at Hutto High School in 2016, his first as a regular hurler at any level, he said. That year, he went 8-1 with a 0.93 ERA and a school-record 158 strikeouts, tossing two no-hitters. In a perfect game that April, Bayless struck out 19 of 21 batters.
