Bryson Smith

Just think of him as a bigger and stronger Greg Ward. That puts him a little closer to Russell Wilson or Drew Brees. Two pretty good “small” quarterbacks.

Except he’s not really bigger (listed at 5’11" and 170lbs) and who knows yet if he’s stronger. Ward got much bigger for his senior year. I’m hoping the S&C coach can put some muscle on Smith to make sure he’s ready to take college-level hits. I will say that, based on watching his highlights, I think Smith has a much better arm than Greg coming out of high school. Otherwise, I don’t see much difference between the two–which is the main reason I’m so excited about this kid. Having QBs in college who can keep defenses honest is such a valuable asset.

Greg Ward was only 5’10 around 170 when he got to UH.

Bryson is taller

Hard to tell with Greg slumped over like that. And really, what difference does it make. Bryson will come in and probably redshirt and have an extra year to bulk up and learn the offense. The kid can flat out play just like Ward…

He aint the only one with hops. Bowser got 1st in the vertical among the linebackers at the combine today.

This tweet makes my heart very happy. We could use all the Greg Ward, Jr. clones we can get! I think this kid is going to be some kind of special.

He’s fast, quick & explosive.

I seriously can’t wait to see what all this speed can do in the Briles offense. Saw a quote earlier that Briles has been really pleased with the progress of returning WRs, which is a really good thing. Lark and Corbin need to step up big time. But I’m looking forward to seeing guys like Marquez Stevenson, Raelon Singleton, Bryson Smith and Julon Williams blow the tops off defenses this year. It’s been a while since we’ve had this kind of speed at WR and a coach who knows what to do with it.
