Bryson Smith

Former NFL Player. He’s working with Bowser so I think this has to do with Bryson:

Let Kyle Allen have his year. Red shirt Bryson and watch him mature like fine wine. The future looks bright :sunglasses: :smile_cat:

I hope we were honest about redshirting him. King and Sells are ahead of him and it would be good for Bryson to have them two years ahead of him with a goal to be a starter his Junior and Senior years. If he beats them all as a redshirt Freshman in Spring 2018, more power to him.

I personally think King is more than a QB. He can do so much more at HB & Slot Receiver. Ugh!

I agree, he who shall not be named knew that too and told him he would be a QB first.

He was offered at several schools to be a QB and at many more schools to be an “athlete.” We are one of the schools that offered him as a QB and since we always say that a player commits to a university and not a coach, then we should honor that after a coach leaves.

I guess they will battle it out after the 2017 season. Wonder if G.Ward was recruited and promised a chance to compete 1t QB. Levine used him more so as a WR.

He would’ve stayed at WR too if O’korn hadn’t regressed significantly. I’m sure glad he did…

Ward was listed as a WR on 247 and as a QB on ESPN but his offers were UH, Memphis, SMU and Rice and after the 2012 for that group of teams (basically all had the same season), I doubt Levine promised him the QB position to reign him in. O’Korn was suppose to be the QB of that class but 2014 was a disaster for our offense and when an offense is bad, a dual threat QB will always look better than a pocket passer. If I recall, no one in the coaching staff had ever played QB or had QB coaching experience.

King on the other hand had offers from 11 Power 5 schools and chose us to get a shot at QB. If at any time he is pressured to play another position because his scholarship depends on it, he should put in a transfer that day. If he wants more playing time by playing other positions, it needs to be a coaches offer and King’s decision.

The offensive coaching staff regressed significantly. No pocket passers would have looked good with them.

I believe the coaching staff told Ward that he’d have a chance at being the QB which is why he chose to come to Houston. Meacham got him on the field at QB his freshman season. It was Bush and Levine that decided O’Korn would be the starter and to move Ward to WR permanently after that first season.

He ran for 212 yards and four touchdowns as a junior in a playoff loss to Lake Ridge. In three playoff games as a senior, he averaged 138 rushing yards per game on just 51 carries with eight rushing touchdowns. It may be difficult for Smith to transition into a collegiate quarterback. If he can’t, he may find more success as a running back.

The definition of QB has changed over the decades. It’s OK to say he doesn’t have experience as a pocket passer but it’s not OK to say he is better suited as a running back. He will redshirt his first year and get a chance to watch the dos and donts of Applewhite’s offense. It will be another 13 months before we get a true read on if he has a chance to be a starting QB. Until then, any talks of him playing running back should not exist.

RB? If he’s not playing QB for us, I think WR would be a better choice. Much like GW jr and King. Either way, can’t wait to see him out in UH jersey

We leave that to other schools where it actually does happen.
