As a followup to this, Gray is officially back on the Metropolitans.

Update on Zamal Nixon, his team (Ludwigsburg) is in the Finals in Germany but got smashed by Alba Berlin in game 1 and probably wont win it. With the new format its just a two leg aggregate, so they are down 23 going into game 2. Zamal hasn’t played much in the playoffs, only 9 mins and 4 mins in the semis. Bad first finals game, fouled out in 11 minutes with 2 points. Berlin has some dang good guards, the Icelandic guard is legit and Peyton Siva (Louisville) comes off the bench.

Also an update on Armoni. He wont be going up to Canada for the CEBL league. They will only be doing a 3 week tournament so the risk/reward isn’t worth it since he should be back in camp with an NBA team.

Armoni will be playing in the TBT tournament with the Okie State Alumni Team, Stillwater Stars

Would be great if we got a Coog alumni team next year. Other than lacking true bigs, it would be a nasty group of guards and wings. Starting five of Corey Davis, Rob Gray, J Simms, Devin Davis, and Tashawn Thomas (screw OU)? Insert Armoni if Simmons is back on an NBA contract. Then Devonte Pollard, Kelvin Lewis, Oliver Lafayette, and Galen are good options.

In “sorta” Coogs in the pros news, Joe Young is absolutely scorching nets in China. He dropped 74 in a game yesterday and previously has scored 60, 60, 55 and 51 (with 1 rebound shy of a triple double) in games the last couple of weeks.

A free beer to the first person who guesses correctly the last Coog to play for that team.

Ricky Winslow

That is a good guess, he did play in Turkey multiple years but don’t believe ever for Harris’ team which is 2nd division. Last guy is about 20 years younger than Winslow.

I have no idea, so I googled it
and still can’t find it.

Fluff McKiver

Found it a different way but here is a little background on his travels.

Congrats! Beer can be redeemed at the 2021 conference championships in Fort Worth, lol. Or maybe if there are fall sports with fans, one of those games.

I have seen Fluff a couple of times in the last few years in my travels to all the games. He was at the game at a casino in Connecticut and then he also came to a UConn game in Hartford. We had a good visit and he had his young son with him. Fluff was a great guy and so much fun to watch.

They don’t consider him a Coog around here
But I do. I loved watching him beat UT in the CBI at the HOF.

Right. Joe went to Yates, played here, is the son of a UH hoops legend, and he left because we fired his dad (even if it was a warranted firing). I’ve got no beef with him for leaving and I like seeing him do well. Mack Rhoades and Darren Dunn are why that happened and why that situation got so bad after Joe decided to leave because they were being petty. Everyone on the boards were backing them unconditionally but both guys left the second they had a chance to move up in the athletics world and Michael Young will always be a Coog.

I liked Mack, but could never understand the rift between UH Basketball and the Young family.

I’m okay with Mack’s tenure overall. He got us a nice stadium built and did the leg work to make entry to the AAC happen. He helped get Sampson though kind of lucked out and wasn’t the key driver. He massively bricked with the Dickey hire. The Levine hire was questionable but defensible though giving him the early extension didn’t seem smart. I really didn’t like how he wouldn’t give Joe a release to go to Oregon after making the decision to demote his dad (I thought demoting MY was not smart either but only know a little bit of the background so maybe it had to be done). I also thought it unnecessarily made us look bad when he drug out giving House and Thomas releases as well.

I wonder if Coach has reach out to Michael to see about mending fences
