Not sure it is easy, but a BB program can be turned around quicker due just to the numbers factor, HOWEVER, you still need to hire a really great “ turn arounder”.

Let’s admit it… UH had some terrifically poor administrators from the late 80’s until about 2005 give or take 5 years in different sports.

It’s not that complicated. Sampson is a special coach, one of the very best in the game. The universe aligned perfectly for us to get him. We’re not going to get a national top 5 coach in football, but we did get an established P5 coach with a BCS conference championship, an Orange Bowl trophy, and a 38-32 Big 12 record with three consecutive first-division finishes in that league, where OU has won the title five straight years. He was at West Virginia, not Texas or even Oklahoma State. In our second game (their 5th), we lost to #14, a team with a possible 1st round QB, yet the difference in the game with about 3 minutes left was a field goal. I’m optimistic. If we had divisions I would think we would be in great position to win the West. We still have a fair shot to win the conference.
not to take away from Sampson but facilities…penders and Sampson but noted it was impossible to sustain success with our old facilities …penders complained about rat problem and toxic showers…penders might not have been Sampson level but he’d have been better with aac status (instead of 1 bid c-usa) and the fertitta center
What’s ironic is people complain that fans don’t show up for football, and the FB board gets the most traffic. Then people complain on this board about basketball getting less support, but attendance numbers compared to football is actually better. Difference between football and basketball is one team is winning. Winning seems to be the key ingredient in fan support.
CKS was a steal. The only reason we got him was because he was already living in the city and considered damaged goods. CDH was a year away from getting the can at WVU and we threw him a 3 million $+ contract. Last year was a failure no matter how you look at it. That said we’re locked into him for at least two more seasons so take it easy. We lost to a ranked BYU team that had played three more games than us, the result shouldn’t have shocked anyone. Save the house burning for when/if we lose to Tulsa.
If and/or when either of these coaches become 1/4 as successful as Leroy or Dave, then there will be no argument . . . . . go Coogs . . . . . enjoyed the game last night. It was exciting until just the last few minutes. If you want guarantees, sports is not for you . . . . .
Well then, why don’t you just watch it and stop running down the coach and looking for every negative? You love Sampson, I get it. Hell, most Coogs love Sampson; but that doesn’t mean we have to run down another coach trying to rebuild a program decimated by the previous two coaches.
