Memphis/UCF now cancelled due to Irma

Big game for the conference. We need UCF to win this one.

And USF begins at 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Bring your raincoats ladies.

I am not complaining. College football starts at 9:30 AM local time on Saturday. Better than having to watch GameDay while I wait for the games to start at 11 AM.

Why do we want UCF to beat Memphis?

I’d think we want Memphis to win to boost our RPI as Memphis is on our schedule.

Gives us wiggle room to still win the west if we falter against someone else. Winning the conference is the only shot at getting back to a NY6 game. I’ll take increased odds of winning the AAC over the chance to move up in the rankings based on RPI within conference every day of the week.

Exactly, I don’t see the playoffs as an option, and conference championship should be the first goal. Loss by Memphis increases our odds of making it there even if we lose a game or two.

I think Memphis losing will help us hopefully in the long term, but I’m also very interested to see how the overall game will play out. Especially since it looks like UCF is going to contend in the east this year.

Definitely, this should be one of the marquee games of the season in the conference.

I’ll start rooting against our opponents when it becomes mathamatically necessary. Until then, I’m rooting for our opponents for all games except one.

Not surprising. There is no way to reschedule this one without either pushing the Championship game a week which probably won’t happen.

USF and UConn is canceled as well. It will be interesting to see how the conference play goes and what impact this has. Don’t get me wrong – I know this is the not the most important thing to be concerned about right now but I am thinking about the football aspect of this.

Maybe the Coogs should just go undefeated in AAC play and let the others figure out who gets to come to TDECU for a Major beatdown…

Facts

Yes, but it shouldn’t be the only goal.

Saw where the AAC canceled the game this morning. The article had a comment along the lines the game probably would not be made up as the teams off weeks are different.

Agreed. I’d rather cheer for us to go undefeated in the division against ranked division foes than hope they lose, stay unranked, so we can possibly back our way into the conference championship game being unranked and with a couple of losses. At least wait until we lose a conference game before hoping for worst/best case scenarios.

Something else to think about. It is a growing possibility that one division champ may have the same amount of losses but one less win than the other division champ. If one team is 7-1 and the other is 6-1, with no head to head games, are they going to give them home field to the team that had more wins?

Seems like Memphis and UCF both benefit unless the conference handles one less game played differently than simply winning %.

Memphis in particular was looking at playing in bad weather where passing would have been challenging.

I think most assume USF would have easily beat UConn despite the lack of talent Charlie Strong inherited.

A little confused on how they both benefit if winning % is the decider. 7-1 > 6-1 Only the one that was going to lose benefits.
